ya know, it's rare when something is unexplained, or i can't figure it out on my own. but this one blew my freaking mind.

yesterday, mid 90's in temp out. no biggie.

getting onto a highway. in 3rd gear about 3k rpms. normal right? no problems thus far. roll into the gas. hit about 10 psi. HOLY CRAP audible detonation. i have not heard this since my distributor went nutso on my 280z.

my timing tables are conservative. water injection kicks on at 8 psi, pe table is activated at 120 kpa, which is about 5 psi or so. im trying to figure why. massivly high iat's perhaps? thats what im leaning towards at least.

 

intercooler pump not working?

 

that im not sure of either. i had just washed the engine, so it's all nice a pretty again. i'll go check it on lunch and see whats going on. it's not running as strong for some reason. so that might be it. the car just rolled over 16k so i don't see why it would do so fast.

nothing. not a damn thing happened.
logs show zero knock at wot.

That happens to me quite once in a while. I never could figure it out, I can always here my detonation evev if I'm only seeing 1.5kr!

 

for one to hear it ping, it is a lot more then 1.5 it seems like the knock sensor went on vacation and didn't tell anyone that it was leaving.

 

One of my cars had an intense tune that had audible detonation at any KR! That was a **** poor tune.

Jiffy Pop sounded better than that.

 

Yea, mine does it too sometimes. Not lately, except for a day or 2 ago in 1st gear. I was like wtf?

Was it possible that you had a clog in your alcohol nozzle?

 

the pump doesn't kick on till 8 psi. this was around 5-6 lbs.

it's in the PE tables above 2.5 psi

it may have been the crappy gas. it hasn't done it since.
