PROBLEM: Confused, rude, ignorant, or just plain stupid GM Rep.
CAUSE: There are various reasons but the most common is an unhappy home life, paycheck, work environment, or some combination of the previously mentioned.
SOLUTION: Walk in to the dealer and up to the counter where the rep resides. Say and do the following. "This is for your own good." Then poke the person in the eye.
If the rep still insists that a GM Stage kit installed by the dealer voids the warranty, repeat the solution until he agrees with you.

I know this has been covered a million times and it seems like there is still debate. One dealer I called when I was looking for it said "We aren't even touching those" I said "well what if I buy it can you install it for me?" They said "Nope" So I know that for the most part they are covered, but I would say that it can be up to the dealers discretion if they want to work on it after that or not. Like this one dealer said they will not install it, service it or anything. Not a big deal I live in Boston area and there are 100s of other dealers, but might be an issue for smaller town people. And you can say "well this.... and that.... bla bla bla" but that isnt going to do much when a dealer like this isnt going to do anything for you. So just another thing to keep in mind before you get one. Might call your local dealer / dealers and make sure that they will install it, cover it etc. Its just phone tag. Keep asking to speak to someone else. Talk to service, parts, sales, managers etc.
I live in Southern, NH and bought my Redline at Saturn of Manchester which is owned by a dealer who owns several other dealerships. I am contacting them tomorrow to see if they will do the install as I just purchased a stage 2 online. No clue when I will receive it, but I guess I better start finding out who at GM will do the install in my area. I bought the GM stage 2 so as long as GM installs it my warranty should not be affected from what I have read here today. We'll see. Let me know if you find a GM dealer in the area that will install and I will do the same. Thanks

OK.... I talked to the Service Manager at the dealer where I bought my REDLINE today and although he seemed to know nothing about the GM kits, his Tech did as he owns a Redline and said they would definately be interested in the install at $78 per hr and when I get the kit to bring it in so they could read the literature, but it sounds like something they can handle. This is not far from Boston if you haven't located a dealer there. Eric Johnson is who I talked to and he was very cool and nice. phone # 603-222-3100 main line for Saturn of Manchester and because they are GM I am sure being a Cobalt with the same motor etc. would not be an issue. I know I am not the only Redline owner on this site and so far I have not had anybody gimme crap about being here and I appreciate that. I was led here by another site as someone posted the link here. I am really liking the info and opinions.

This is kinda off topic but kinda not. I am getting the GMPP exhaust manifold. and a few of the dealers around me have either said they refuse to intall becasue of emissions calbrations or that they would install in but it would void the warrenty of attached parts if found to be at fault. So now i am a little upset so i called GM ( acutally it was Chevy Customer Service Line).
They told ANY at all mods to orginal facotry equipment including GM parts (including stage upgrades ) or NOT GM would fall under the The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

This is a post from the MODERATOR of this site. I would tend to think he knows what he is talking about and NO it WILL NOT void your warranty.

This stuff is all new to me. I am not a motorhead, but love SPEED and handling in a car.
Very cool. Thanks for verifying what I thought was true. I have read it over and over, but most have other mods as well and I was wanting to know with just stage 2. That is great and I guess I am on the list with who knows how many thousand others awaiting a new batch of these to be produced. Couple more questions.... When did you get yours (month/year) and total cost (parts/labor) and any problems with dealer/dealers not wanting to tackle the job in your area.

I would recommend that you have them call the number on the paper for the VCI number during the install. The reason for this is because they may stay on hold for 30 minutes to over an hour which is why my install was an hour and 45 but the reflash took 45 minutes itself cus of the call they waited to do until they were done. The VCI number is needed to confirm the download of the software they need to upgrade the PCM. Don't leave the lot if the flash isn't done or you will be running way too rich. They may want to take the car for a test to insure proper working order so just let em and this will only serve to insure working order.
When you end up getting it installed go to a CLEAR area where you can get up to speed a few times in 3rd. The reason is because just after installing the new kit it appears that the car needs a few lessons getting used to the new mods. The car will idle really high just after installing the parts so don't be worried about it and just take it easy. Once you run the car a few times the idle will sit just at about ~800 which is where it should be and you will be ready to go.
GREAT INFO and once again... THANKS being a new member on this site and actually just finding out about the stage kits I have learned a lot from reading and going back to old posts even a year old almost. I understand the frustration and have read some of the senior members say "that has been covered 100 times on here" but what they fail to understand or perhaps care about is the excitement when a new member finds out what his/her motor is capable of for less than $1000. You want to know everything NOW and going through a year of threads backwards is not the quickest way. Asking questions is. I have done both research and ask enough that I feel very comfortable dropping almost a grand in my engine now.

intense doesnt void your warrenty. BY LAW if u really want to get technical and fine print, Yes they both would void warrenty. By law a manufacturor defines warrenty on a vehicle up until the first varifiable removal or addition to any part of the vehicle.
However, i still have warrenty, its all in the relationship you establish with your dealer.
As for the GM kit, be careful, the warrenty they state in the kit is FOR THE KIT itsself, and does not reflect on your factory warrenty. Warrenty is always a dealer to dealer issue, and regardless of the part being GM or not, they can still void the warrenty for any reason they feel justified. Of course at that point there are loop holes, and customer issue helplines open to help resolve issues quickly.
BUT, people need to stop assuming that everything voids a warrrenty, in reality it does, but unless ur the biggest cockiest dickface on the planet, your dealer will work with u to resolve the issue. They make the same amount off warrenty as non warrenty.
