zzp customer service just sent me this email about me getting the stage 3 kit, only using a 2.9 pulley instead of the 3.0 anyways, here it is

"I can make that change but I hope that you have a downpipe and or a header, because without them you could blow your engine" - from zzp customer service

wtf??- me lol

I'm fine running a 2.9 with 42's with airbox mod right? Because i know a lot of people run stage 2's and these set up with nothing else

Since you asked for discussion, I do not see anything wrong with that e-mail. A lot of companies have people blaming them for things that occur after using their product. They are playing it safe by warning you, so you don’t turn around later accusing them and not being clear. You are moving more air in, what makes you think it isn’t good to move more air out? If it isn’t balanced properly either way you go, you are hurting your engine.

I agree, there was a thread earlier about a guy getting knock with a 2.9" pulley, and you know why, no supporting mods I.E. header, downpipe or any extra cooling methods. ZZP is smart in warning you cause it could pose a problem if you run with it for too long, or it could just pull timing and run slower than your 3.0" pulley and they don't want to be liable.
