popping noise????

Ive got an 06 ss and when i start off in 1st gear or i start to back up, i hear a popping sound coming from up near the driver side from wheel. I took it to the dealership and they cant seem to hear it. Im trying to see if anyone elses does that or if it is somthing wrong.

Someone on this forum before said it was part of the exhaust or something, said that he could even manually set it off in his shop. Exhaust, fuel pump...something of that nature. It's on the SS models as well as everything down the base models.

He's talking 'bout something else... you're talking bout the exhaust clicking as it cools off.

annnd i know exactly what your talking about. Its definitely a suspension thing but i don't think it's anything to worry about. Think of it like a person's knees cracking while standing up after sitting for a long ass time

ahh....maybe I just misunderstood it. I just know my car has it too...people riding are always thinking I have a body in the trunk or something.

well i've noticed 3 weird noises since ive had my 'balt:

1. clicking for about 20 mins after the car has been shut down ( exhaust )
2. this loud ass "triple-knock" sound shortly after car is shut down (trunk latch resetting)
3. the single click when first starting the car (probably suspension)

The body in the trunk thing is probly #2. Used to freak me out thinking someone was knocking on my garage door

I think we are all talking about a similar popping noises personally I know of 2 different weird ones. The first when you start to move the car from a stop, forward or back, and that is the ONLY time it popps or clicks. The other poping or clicking happens when the car's suspension is being stressed like going up and down a drive-way or turning hard. But the sound comes from 2 different areas. I have the suspension one while my other friend in the 06 SS has the take off one.

i get more of a clicking noise when i take off in first. i still have to take it in for that. i'll hear it sometimes also downshift from 3rd to 2nd after fully letting the clutch out. but it's about 98% of the time when i take off. any idea?

it could be a CV because it seems that when you change direction it does it. so when your at a dead stop and go to take off it would click by the driver side which could be the CV and same with reverse but at the same time it could very well be a suspension bushing shot and your getting a small click due to clearance...wiggle the cv shaft towards the driver wheel then the passanger and repeat see if its the same noise your hearing...

My car is doing the same thing, it happens all the time, no matter what It always clicks when I leave a stop sign it clicks about 3-4 times or when I shift up or down it also clicks. Took it in to the dealership and they told me it was the flex pipe comming from the headers, I dont beleive them tho, it is definetly more than that, it just keeps getting worse.

That is your intermediate shaft popping b/c it is bad... have the dealer replace it... it's a warranty issue.
