Ported Head
Worth it.... maybe..
It depends on how far you want to go.
On a stock - stage 2 car... no, don't bother.
If your one of those guys going for a 2.7 or smaller pulley, or a TVS... yeah, it's probably a good investment.
The bottom line, is that porting should generally be viewed as a supporting mod, rather than a power mod.
Edit:
And as I stated earlier in this thread... head and SC porting is only part of the puzzle... the real restriction is in our intake manifold. In stock form, it flows 85% of what the head does.
It depends on how far you want to go.

I let the cat out of the bag a last week, in that I've been flow testing a ported version. It seems promising... less heat, more flow. In combination with a head porting it should free up some flow, and lower that boost pressure. Efficiency FTW!
See my last edit, with respect to the IM.

Actually, with all the talk in this other thread about the f35... I'm kinda 2nd thinking the idea of spending all this $$$ on power adders when the tans is the weakest link in the drivtrain.
Actually, your right.... the drive train is a weak link indeed.
I've been inquiring with a local performance transmission shop about beefing up the tranny. I might have some info this summer sometime when I start to focus on that area of the car.
please tell me you didn't tell him to hack the **** out of it too
I don't think it's as bas as people say, considering the fact that there are plenty of people in the 260-290whp range that don't have issues and a handful of guys well over 300whp that just have the Exedy setup...
Well I drive it up to the track (40min-1hr) and I usually let it sit till the tepms from the car were around 140ish... (let it sit for about 30 min) But it was more or less my first manual car. I used to have a Man GTZ that I drove for about 4K so I'm sure my slipping in the cobalt is due to lack of experience.
I never told Cameron to port it SO big. he just thinks extreme is cool, because his always has to be bigger and badder than everyone elses. It just never ends up being that way! LOL!'
The only reason Gilbert ported his head was to accomodate the flow of the GT28R Turbo we put on the cobalt. The eaton doesn't really make enough flow to warrant the cost of a port job on the heads.

I never posted it on this forum cause there would be 80 internet engineers coming in the thread and telling me I'm wrong. Even though I got the seal of approval from Arnie at Eaton regarding content validity...
This is the whole reason I made this:

finally some good reasoning to back up the dos and don'ts of supercharger porting, i wish i would have seen this earlier, might have forced me to go out and get those silencer holes welded up when i was porting mine.
