Possible help (not fix) for our clutches

So I was talking with my service tech at the Saturn shop (I take it to Saturn cause I'm good friends with the tech there), and we were discussing my recent clutch slip issue. Now my clutch doesn't slip all the time, just probably 1 out of every 7-10 times I get on it WOT. He told me that our clutches are supposed to be self adjusting, but the mechanism used to do this is weak design. He said that our clutches are supposed to adjust themselves every time we put the car into reverse. He said the harder you get on it in reverse the more pressure the adjusting mechanism will put on the clutch.

So I went out to the parking lot, found a place where I could give it some gas in first, then put it in reverse and goosed it a little. I did this about 6 or 7 times, and I noticed an immediate difference in the feel of the shifter and the clutch pedal. I then took it on the freeway and got on it a couple of times trying to get it to slip and nothing... (knock on wood).

So while this obviously is not a cure to the problem it might be some help to a few of us.

Oh, and by goose it in reverse I don't mean to break the tires loose, just give it more gas than you ussually would.

What do you mean a difference in clutch pedal stiffness and shifter?

Just what is says, the clutch pedal felt stiffer at highter speeds afterwards, and the shifter felt more solid while shifting (i.e. not soft)
