power engine reduced?

(2006 cobalt s/c ) When I was getting on the freeway today I gave it a full throttle. A few seconds later my car lost power and I read power engine reduced. What does mean? Now my car won't go pass 50mph, and it stalls in the city with a weird rattling noise.

The rattling is what I'd be worried about. Limp mode could be something simple. Is the rattle coming from the engine itself or just something in the engine bay?

augievelas,

Just wanted to chip in what I could: the Engine Power Reduced message informs you that the vehicle has reduced engine power to avoid damaging the engine. I unfortunately don't have any information behind what would trigger the vehicle to do this to share with you.

Were you planning on getting this looked into? I'm here to assist in whatever way I can!

Have you had any work done to the car in the past week or so. After I had my clutch and flywheel changed my car went into limp mode and all I did was disconnect the neg battery cable for about 30 minutes then plug it back in. After that I haven't seen the message again.

IIRC limp mode is usually caused by a whole ass load of knock occuring in a short period of time. Did you recently fill up with some bad gas? Have you done anything that would adversely affect your AFR?

that is only one of a bunch of things that will cause limp mode and knock is not the main one
