you should only run premium in the car anyway.. but higher boost.. you def need the better gas.. and on every discription I've ever seen for stage II it says premium only

you should use premium if you have the ss/sc, regardless if you have stage 2 or not.

regular unleaded can cause spark knock due to shitty detonation of the air ful mixture caused by cheap gas, which can lead to engine failure. always use 91 or higher octane in any force inducted car!

Yea I have always ran 93 in mine and 100 on the weekends, the 93 is only 20 cents more then 87, thats sounds alot better to me then a detonated motor And the 100 is only $5.99

I put 87 in all the time. the only time I put 93-94 in is when I go racing. Just cant see paying the money for the extra 3-4 octain. and in the manuel it says use 93 octain for the best performance.

I run 91-93 all the time. ONE time only, the station was out of premium and I didn't have enough to make it to another station, so I put 89 in it. Figured fill it, one tank won't hurt, right? 25 miles down the road, I get the check engine light. Next day call to the dealership, and the manager explains to me that I got crappy gas, burn through it, fill with premium. Did so, and light went off on its own. Come to find out, the engine light will come on for poor emissions (detonation, back fire, etc). Guess if I had read the manual before calling, I would have known this.

I thought we've had this discussion before...

As I recall from the last thread about this....
The Cobalt SS-SC factory owners manual says to us 89 octane...
Any stage kits recommend using 93 octance....

no it doesn't... it say you CAN use 89, but for best performance it says to use premium.

With the rise of fuel prices I predominately use 89 octane and switch to 91-93 about twice a week. Keep in mind most of my driving is done on the hiway with no noticeable loss of power or any other problems. I drive 134 miles round trip each day. My DIC says average speed 51 mph and 27.6 mpg.

You definately must use premium fuel for the stage upgrades which is why I have not put a stage kit in yet. Fuel prices will continue to rise throughout the next fuel weeks for fear of a spring fuel shortage (particularly on the west coast), refinery maintenance, and oil is trading over $61 a barrel.
