pulley question
pulley question
I have been searching and can't come to a conclusion because everyone has their own opinion and that isn't what I am really looking for. Anyway, I would like to get either a 2.7 or a 2.8 pulley and can't get fact's on which is better. I read that with the 2.7 I will be either over spin or max out my supercharger's rpm and cause insane heat soak. I will be upgrading to every cooling mod possible in the near future. I have the new ottp heat exchanger currently. Before people tell me to search and think I am a noob; go to a different thread. I am looking for some facts on which is best. I also read I will have to machine my supercharger with the 2.7... so many misleading facts out there. I just want some help. I wish they had a sticky and if they do I would like to know about it. Thanks in advance
wow ok your first claim down and when people tell you stuff on this site not everyone is right.
2.8 is a common side that is considered the safest you can go without the worry of supercharger or engine problems.
.1 isnt going to get you major heat soak and ruin your supercharger or engine. it will heat up faster being that it will spin the supercharger a bit more. tho the reason im sure your think of leaning to the 2.7 is horsepower. well your only going to get like 3-5 hp more.
also with everycooling mod ive seen people run 2.4-2.6 so there wrong about that but you will cut the life of the supercharger in half. i guess its just rep of the 2.8 no one has had engine or supercharger problems and ive heard some with the 2.7 so its really up to you if your willing to risk it for 3-5 hp

You could use either or as stated. Most stick with the 2.8" becuase some 2.7" pullies require you to machine your snout so it won't rub. Gains to be had are 3~5 whp and 5~7 wtq, expect iat2's to be higher and rise quicker. I would look into the 2.8" becuase you could always go to something else down the road with a modular pulley system.
i have been using the 2.7 with duel pass and ottp h/e. no problems so far and at redline i am seeing 19lbs of boost. never had 2 machine it either. bought a pulley puller/ installer from nate. u can get it from ottp they are the same. i just pressed mine on with the tool
yeah thats where i got mine. nate from smoothflow. he is awsome. i put the pulley on and i think i might have bent it. i think i fucked it up pretty much. so i called nate i sent mine back in and he sent me a new one free of charge. i just had 2 pay for shipping
My vote is 2.7". You may be overspinning the M62 a bit out of its efficiency range up high, but really how often do you go WOT and spin to 7000+ RPMs? I'm more concerned about fueling with my 60#'s on my setup than killing the blower...
And if you kill the blower, there's always a turbo kit in your future...
The ZZP 2.7" fits without touching the snout. I am running the ZZP 2.7" on an Intense Racing hub. I originally had a 2.8" on the Intense hub then decided to throw a 2.7" ring on there. So far 0 problems with about 15,000 miles on the setup. The butt dyno believes the 2.7" makes some more torque. The 2.7" definitely moves some more air over the 2.8", as it hits the next MAF cell in HP Tuners. Also the boost seems to come on quicker and harder; not like a blower really has that problem anyways though...

you will not have to machine it with the 2.7 from smoothflow i have one and no problems. actually its for sale its like 2 days old then took it off cuz im going turbo. if intereted pm me
Hmm. I've had my 2.7" on the car for a little over a year now. My slipped right on no problem. Maybe the new pulleys are different, since mine is soo old?
I already have a gm stage 2 hub. lsjwannabe and I pm a little. I think I will just stick with a 2.8 when the time comes. I don't plan on getting 300whp on a stock blower. If I were to yeild 270whp with full supporting mods I would be happy.
you would prob be looking @260whp...
