question about buying custom exhaust

Hi, I was wondering what makes a good custom exhaust setup? Is the piping bigger? What kind of muffler should I get? I want to have my local exhaust shop make me a custom exhaust but I dont know what I should tell them to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike

I dont want to buy a name brand exhaust just because money is tight.

hey man,
I just got mine done saturday.

I went with 3 in aluminized mendrel piping. 18in glass packed highflow resonator. flowmaster muffler, and a sebring touring resonated tip. I love the sound. it is a lil loud for me at the moment but im going to go back and get another 12 in resonator put in to quiet it down a tad more.

but the sound is deep. no rasp. lil drone.

i paid 430 for everything. would of been 400 without the kickass resonated tip. ill try to get you a sound clip for it. but for a quieter sound. try borla. its nice and deep. but not extremly loud. but if if planning on pushing more than 250 HP. you will need the 3 in piping. more muffler and resonator, less rasp and drone, and a lil quieter. hope this helps!

idk if i was you dood. if money is tight and you want to be smart about it honestly. since your only stage 2 get a AXLE BACK 2.50 it will cost you not more than 150 bucks TOTAL depending on the muffler. but the only difference in our exhaust is our axle back it goes from 2.50 to 2.25. anything more than 2.50 like 2.75-3.00 youll lose power. but trust me dood get an axle back. NO need for a cat-back if your getting the SAME SIZE as your stock exhaust which is perfect 2.50. makes me wonder why the hell they put a 2.25 on the axle back. stupid...

i was quoted for 95 bucks for a axle back aluminized... same price as modern performance i think. just no delivery lol. but i would have to buy my own muffler which will bump it up to around 150. know what i mean brother?

money is tight he said... a full-catback of the SAME size exhaust as stock is pointless lol why doesnt anyone see that

well "brother" haha, i said i can do meaning i could hook him up... i have help a few people out with systems already... and if the reason why i would repipe is to get rid of the resonator and the Thin spots they have in the stock exhaust piping... couple hundred for a full (non hacked exhaust system) instead of 600-1,100 for name brand of then same characteristics.....

lol sorry man i just got lost in translation. if he can hook you up dood. DO IT 100%. nothing ever better than that.
1. person who knows and has exp. on doing balt's exhaust
2. cheaper price for grade A work
3. only paying extra bucks in gas is worth it.

after your pushing over 250 hp with your balt, you will need the 3 in piping. which is not more than stage 2, exhaust, intake, maybe a port and polish job on the SC, and a meth kit?

So if i do a axle back with a magnaflow muffler, it will give me the same gains that a catback would? As long as I do 2.5in piping.

Yes and no.

Personally, i would just rather replace the exhaust. I dont really like the stock resonator, and its quite heavy compared to an aftermarket one.
