Question about the SS S/C engine

Hey. I understand you guys come stock with a intercooler? Is this true? If so, is it possible to get some pics of it and where it mounts up? I am working on an idea for my GTP (since GM thought it would be a good idea to not IC it...ever...other than the GNs...BRILLIANT!) and if it looks even close to something that's doable, I might start looking for wrecked SS S/Cs in a junkyard. Long shot, I know, but might be worth it in the long run. Especially since they want a crap ton of money for an IC for these cars, and the ones that aren't real expensive are shortstack, not FM.

Actually I would consider it an air to water after cooler. It relies on Laminovas to cool the intake charge before entering the cylinder head.Don't think it would be practical for your particular application.

in 1996 they made a prototype Grand Prix called the GPX (no not the GXP)

It had a 3.4" pulley, was intercooled, and made 300hp.. however, that would be beating the Chevy/Pontiac V8's, the LT1 camaro and Trans am.

So they had to pull it back a little bit and make it 240hp.

BTW.. dont bother fabbing up your own intercooler

www.wbodystore.com

www.zzperformance.com

The only 2 sites you should EVER visit when it comes to grand prix's

*edit just noticed you said it was expensive?

get this though, but the full size IC for $800.. buy a modular pulley system WITH a 3.0" pulley for $800... then run low 13s ALL DAY long.

its been done on many cars. Those cars respond to mods more than the cobalt does.

They don't have the FMIC for the 04's. The 04's only seem to have the SS ICs

Lots of aftercooler stuff!
http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_p...cts.php?id=139

The aftercooler may be almost $1000, but the fact that it will lower you IAT's dramatically, especially when pullied, makes that cash well spent. If you don't want to buy their aftercooler rads and pumps, you can probably search around here and the cobra sites to find cheap used parts.

Why don't you get the core and then use a cobra heat exhanger (Or any HE that would fit) and whatever pump you want?

You live in virgina. You can probably get away with running the SSIC.

doesn't matter, same roots style. the blower on the tsc is upside down versus a grand prix.

Yeah, the problem is the whole 04 thing. Since the short stack ICs are easier to install, they seem to focus on those. I might just break down and get a short stack, oh well.
