question about zzp longtube header

ive got a stage 2 with the gmpp performance exhaust, looking at getting the zzp 3 inch cai and the long tube header and dp combo with the cat. will the header and dp actually add anything at this point or just set up for future mods? im told the cai is good for 10 hp, but i havent heard any numbers on the long tube header and dp. any thoughts or charts from the zzp guys would be awesome.

any constructive input would be fine, has anyone done one mod and then the other, did you notice a seat of the pants difference? i know the cai sounds neat, and im told the catted dp adds to the sound as well, im just curious if there is more to it than look at me factor. i know these two mods are a must if i ever want to step up to a tvs so im laying the ground work here for that, just curious if ill enjoy it along the way.

A long tube header will make much more of a gain then a cold air intake but get both if you can. I would recommend getting tuned for it afterwards to get the most out of it. Ditching the stock exhaust manifold and downpipe is one of the best things you can do to an LSJ

thank you im about to hit the spend 800 dollars button and wanted to at least ask the community for their input. im just suprised that after 6 years of supercharged cobalts that there isnt a Very clear step by step build up with dyno charts from either zzp or ottp. even just a sticky from someone with access to a dyno who logged each change so there would at least be a set of numbers to refer to. thanks again for the response, any others would be appreciated.

the lsj needs exhaust port work, headers and a 2.5 or better exhaust system to work well.

the zzp long tube header is well made with the flex in the semi vertical down pipe. The OTT header has the flex in the horizontal position and is not very effective as a flex.

both have had issues, zzp with chased threads in the 02 bungs that they corrected in the latest headers i puton for customers. Check OTT vendor thread to see how they respond to any issues. The v band flanges on the OTT header needed machining to fit right.

check the prices, make your choices.

dont forget cooling mods lol

im hoping to do each upgrade all the way rather than have to get the same part several times as i upgrade, so im looking at the new zzp single pass intercooler next, id just like to see how it holds up over the next few months. otherwise its dp and stg 3 he with option b. im not intending to get into meth at any point, ill see what can be done with 93 and be happy with that.

i get 305 wheel on 93 octane. I would not do a single pass manifold, as much as zzp do good work, that set up they make did not show the cooling returns that my single pass (which is made differently) makes, and in fact the customer went back to dual pass and the cooling iat2 were better. I am not doing any more single pass manifolds at the moment.

that puts me back to the stage 3 he with dp and option b camp, im curious though if its worth it to have more he than the stg 3 which im going to get regardless, is there any gain to running both the zzp stg 3 and the griffin unit? curious before i buy both, im absolutely going to get the zzp unit for the visual impact of the filled front bumper, but i havent seen anything about anyone also running the griffin unit.

ZZP's single pass is far from new. IMO get an Option B if you add any sort of cooling mods. It makes bleeding the system a breeze.

definately planning on option b when i get the new h/e and dp, just curious if there is such a thing as too much h/e, or a point where returns diminish to nothing, will the griffin and zzp stg 3 add together to lower iat2s? or is the stg 3 h/e more than enough?

I would skip the zzp s3 and go straight to the Griffin.

the look of the zzp sells it for me, its clear the front bumper of the cobalt was designed to be filled by a big intercooler the only question is would i gain anything by also running the griffin unit?

if you want looks over performance knock yourself out. It does get a little dispiriting to tell the truth. You have been given the same advice by more than one person, the numbers are clear. It makes sense, the Griffin was developed in 04 by Griffin and GM for racing use in LSJ cars. Over and over it proves to be the best. Cooling is a science, but it requires also some common sense. Stacking cooler over cooler doesnt work, generally speaking. So Griffin or go home. OR just do it for looks, buy the ZZP FMIC and take pictures.

The front bumpers primary reason for being , after looks, is conforming to barrier test requirements.

This.

Once I get some added funds I'm ditching my OTTP front mount heat exchanger, and going the Griffin route. I'm working on building my motor up to time attack specs (off nitrous of course). Hell, I already have a Time Attack blower. Mine as well go the same cooling route, and do it right.

there is no physical reason why i cant run the zzp stg 3 he and the griffin unit together, something ive repeated several times here, my understanding is simply more is better, just curious if anyone else has run both and seen a gain? they arent literally on top of each other, the stg 3 would get hit by air through the bumer and the griffin more by air through the grill, more surface area for cooling and more fluid to absorb heat, it seems like someone in the community would already have run both. I know the visual doesnt make you faster, but if all we cared about were numbers we would all be driving turbo dodge omnis painted rattle can brown.

its been tried. one griffin is better. check folks on Ontario Cobalt Clubs dot com for example . Blazin new ground is an admirable quest, its just what you are suggesting doesnt add up. More is not always better...

ill be blazing new ground when i put my radiator in the trunk the plan is simple, run the radiator hoses to the trunk, put in pusher fans with inlets right at the leading edge of the trunk lid and exhaust the heat right between the tail lights. see what my iat2s are like when the radiator isnt pouring heat onto the intercooler. should help the h/e breath better too. but anyway, thanks for the input, longtube header and cai are on their way.

So what is the problem with the ZZP single pass? That is going to be my next, and the last cooling mod to my puzzle, but I won't bother if it can be explained why not to get it.

Thanks
