So I raced my buddys 6.0 gto 6speed today after we were beating on our cars for a while on the highway. He pulled on me pretty easy, not like I was sitting still but pretty hard. Nornally when we race I pull on him or its pretty close and no he did not mod his car anymore. I new something was up with my car so I get home and notice my intercooler wasnt working, so I hit it with a hammer and now its working.. I have no clue how long its hasn't been working, but now I have a check engine light on. So my question is do you think the only reason I lost is because im heat soaked without the intercooler working or did I damage something by driving alot without it working?

 

the car will automatically pull timing when your iat2s get too hot. so yes you were pretty heatsoaked with it not working. but as far as breaking something who knows. if it doesn't sound or idle different then probably not. just run the code and see what it is.

 

What he said. Losing the Intercooler Pump will destroy your performance. Replace that... and all should be fine.

 

So I let my car cool down for couple of hours and did a bunch of pulls on the highway.. car pulls way harder now! I cant believe how much of a diference not having my intercooler working made

 

Yep... totally kills performance/top end.

 

I was lucky when my IC went out, it was winter, so my winter IAT2s were in the range of what they are normally in the summer

 

I lost a race or two before I was able to figure it out. Didn't have an interceptor or anything like that at the time... so I couldn't monitor temps. That was 4 years ago, though. Got it replaced under warranty.

Glad I don't have to worry about it any more.

 

My check engine light is off now so hopefully im good to go and the pump dosn't stop working again.

 

It will, mine was on and off for about 2 weeks then it was off everytime unless I hit it with a hammer. Just spend the money and get a new one from ZZP.
