Questions about upgrades

Ive been saving up for a stage 2 kit for sometime and almost have enough to buy the kit, my question is for you guys how much did installation cost(on average).

Also i was reading on the CAI thread and didnt see a GM brand, do they furnish one? If they dont, are the aftermarkets safe for my warranty?

GM sent a small catalog to my house that has a couple of exhaus systems in it, but they look exactly like the one that is on my car? part numbers are 17802111 and 17802110, wasnt sure if they were for the other submodels like the ss na, ls, lt, ltz.

Sorry if i sound like a newb, but any help would be appreciated.

i would imagine the installation costs differ from dealer to dealer...but at my dealership they charge about $90/hr for labor. I would figure about 2 hours for the full install....so i would expect to pay a couple hundred. If it's cheaper....then you get more money in your pocket.

GM does not make an intake for the ss/sc. I would recommend and AEM intake, or save some money and do an airbox mod. it took me like 30 minutes and only cost me $45 for the AEM dryflow filter.

As far as the exhausts go....i believe those are the numbers for the gmpp (gm performance parts) exhausts. one is sport and one is touring. the touring has a more mellow rumble but the sport is well...sportier and louder. they are not the same exhaust as what you have stock. if you are on a bugdet, i would recommend the gmpp sport exhaust. it has a much improved sound and performance over stock, but will only set you back about $400. if you have about $700 burning a hole in your pocket...go with Corsa. Personally, i can't see spending the extra 300 on the corsa...but that's my opinion.

Install for my stage 2 was about $175.

Yes, those part numbers are for the GMPP Exhaust systems. I have the GMPP Sport Exhaust and love the sound and performance gains. Best bang for your buck by far.

I'm pretty sure you can get the AEM filter at gravanatuning.com. I have the K&N CAI and love it, great sounds and performance, but for the most part they are all similar.

Will i be able to install the exhaust myself or will that also have to be done by the dealer to maintain my warranty? My biggest concern while modding is keeping my warranty, ive only got 3k miles on my car, and its got a 60k warranty

I'm not sure about the install and warranty issue, I did my own, I wouldn't think that the dealership would have to install it to keep it under warranty.

right...the gmpp intake is NOT for the ss/sc models. I think you might be a little mistaken when it comes to knowing about the warranty. Installing things yourself does not void the warranty. If you put a CAI in your car...your dealer isn't going to not fix a steering problem because you put an intake in yourself. Upgrades only void certain warranty work if the part is proven to be the cause of your problem. If a problem arises from your CAI...they can deny you warranty work...but like what the hell could possibly happen? see what i mean? putting in a cai or an exhaust is a pretty self contained ugrade.

Also, if you decide to put the stage 2 in by yourself...the warranty can only be harmed if they can prove the problem was caused by any of the parts that they didn't install. so basically..i wouldn't worry about it too much. a warranty is not an all or nothing deal. your warranty will live out it's 60k life just fine.

Thanks man, that helps alot! I think i have decided what ill be doing, the stage 2 will be done by them cause i dont have the equipment to put it on or flash the ecu for that matter. but ill prolly just shoot the wad and buy it a CAI and catback exhaust (the GMPP) as well as the torque strut(cause it jerks hard into 2nd) and just fall in love all over again when its finished. Ill keep everyone updated. This site has become my new "bible" lol

The price for the kit seems decent, but the labor price is high, I would shop that around still. The dealership I went to wanted $175 for install.
