Questions for those that have gone turbo

So, I have dreams of higher power numbers than the TVS will ever give me. I am sick and tired of battling IAT everytime I go to the track. I want something that actually works in the heat of summer.

With that being said I'm considering going the Hahn route either 20G or GT35. I have no intentions of building the motor, just want to make 350-400+ to the wheels in the heat of summer. I would of course part out all the supercharged items and prob make some money back.

Some things I'm curious on, gas mileage city and highway differences, I would think it would be better for both, this is my daily driver so it is a concern of mine. This decision is based on more than just horsepower numbers. Also I want to still enjoy the low end, no power lag that I have now, is that still a possibility? No I will not consider a garbage ZZP twin charger setup. Its hahn with the streetrace manifold or nothing at all.

haha theres alot of things that would have to fall into place in order for it to happen, first I would have to get rid of the trans am which is very dear to me

I would make mine own kit by aquiring the parts necessary.

BW S256 extended tip with .55 A/R or AGP modded S256 w/ .63 A/R
Vulcan's Tubular Manifold
Tial 38mm Wastegate
Hahn Intake Manifold
Treastone TR8 Intercooler
Tial of Synapse BOV
Custom charge piping and downpipe

By the way, are you spraying methanol in conjunction with the TVS? Also, what other cooling mods are you running? Just curious.

That's fine, yes he is entitled to his own opinion. But he is kind of contradicting himself. He said, " Also I want to still enjoy the low end, no power lag that I have now, is that still a possibility?" and then says he doesn't want the "garbage" zzp twincharge kit.

Fact is, big turbo = big lag. 350-400+ to the wheels is 420-470+ crank hp and that's not gonna happen without a decent size turbo. The only way around that is to fork out some dinero for a dual ball bearing, twin scroll, and it seems he isn't wanting to spend another arm and a leg (TVS) just to not be satisfied.

Garbage it may be to him, but it seems it would be perfect for what he wants.

That's about the nicest way I can put it without causing a **** storm. If this thread goes to hell from here, it's not my fault.

sorry to hear you're going a different route now.

And not to cause any **** or anything, the tvs makes power in the heat. I just made 320whp/250wtq in 97* temps with the vibrant setup.

320\250 isnt really good enough reason to stick with a tvs

i like a nice looking engine bay setup and the zzp just looks homemade i dont put homemade parts on my car

if dual scroll is what it takes im open to that

If you're talking about engine bay clenliness, just about any turbo set-up will be "uglier" than the TVS. Also, any turbo will give you some amount of lag - from your posts it sounds like the smaller turbo will be better. Mileage will be completely dependent on your right foot and your tune, but in theory it should be slightly better than the TVS set up. Even cruising the s/c does have a smidge of parasitic drag on the engine.

just remember, more HP doesnt fix the fatal flaw in your car.

my biggest flaw is no longer traction or wheelhop (those problems have been addressed), its IAT, I lose so much during the summer just baking in the staging lanes, turbo guys never seem to have these issues

if you are still running 14's, IAT's are not your main problem.

Well i'll chime in and say that i love my hahn setup, minus the tune and everything like that... but the over all kit seems fine. although my car isnt my daily driver just cruising around town i get 30+mpg i have yet to take it out onthe highway
As far as track times, whp/wtq, and all that... i have yet to be dyno'd so i really dont know what numbers i put down (yes i could insert hahns numbers here but meh)... track times arent good for me cause i have no traction but i will say i've trapped at 108 as my best mph so far but i've only had it to the track 2 times

all in what you want man...

I'm not "running" at all, I drive back and forth to work. I've been to the track once in the past year.

I would think the gas mileage would have to be better being that I wouldnt be spinning a deadweight all the time

I averaged 40+ on the m62. I'd think you could average the same on the tvs if you know what you are doing with the tune.

well, your right about some turbo setups, they dont look good under the hood but how i have mine setup, it def flows with the engine bay:

and as far as gas mileage goes? i can guarantee you will see an increase, especially in the city just because if you dont stomp on it, your always in vacuum.. i cant really tell you what i get because its impossible for me to drive normal now lol. OP, anything else you wanna know, just ask!

Rodimus, you still haven't answered my question about methanol injection yet. Are you running it or not?
