Rebuilding The LSJ
Rebuilding The LSJ
Where would the best place to get parts to rebuild my lsj engine to build the motor up to handle more hp. I've got a to-do list and if I did decide to go turbo I would like to put in some better pistons etc in the car before throwing a turbo on it. And what parts would you upgrade if you were rebuilding it(The major parts)...
Me and a buddy would rebuild it so no need to list shops just gotta find out a decent place to provides quality upgrades at a decent price.

I just dealt with OTTP, excellent service and the cheapest i found. I went with diamond pistons, after i blew up #4 everything is good so far. If you get diamond pistons though, make sure you count your wrist pin locks before you start, I was short 1...not OTTP's fault though, they came from diamond sealed.
wiesco makes pistons now for the lsj. they are 9.2:1 CR and they make custom bores aswell. as for rods they factory rods are rated for 150hp per cyl. But some companies shelf aftermarket LSJ rods now. i know JBody and Crower make rods for the LSJ. for anything else im sure OTTP could hook you up the best. if you need help making a parts list shoot me a PM. i just went through this process and im sure a lot of other ppl on here have aswell. its not cheap thats for sure.
I'm in the process of doing the same thing. I have a list of parts that I am going to put together to build one of the baddest blown powerplants on here. But OTTP will be the easiest and most helpful route to go.
Diamond racing sells pistons, in reality that's about all you need to change in the bottom end, you will crack a sleeve before you break a rod or crank. And you will have too much power to be useful well before you get to that point anyway.
I will make sure I will, I may give you a call on monday or something. I need to get an overall price before making a choice though.
Like I said above what are some big items you would change?
Pistons, Cams, Rods? or what.
OH I will be building up the motor and keep the stock s/c on there for a while then I will move to turbo hopefully by next year.
Redline4 - I might get some bs for this but I am going to give you my 2 cents. First off your a smart man for building up the motor before adding more power, you are doing things the right way the first time around! Lately, A LOT of people have been cracking sleeves, and the majority of them already have forged pistons. When you upgrade a part that normally fails, like our stock pistons, then the next weakest link gives in the motor, which is our sleeves.
If your going to do a build, it would be pretty stupid in my opinion to not sleeve the block. It will make the build easier to pull the block anyways. This will also give you a chance to clean up some of the other parts, get the block honed, machined, balanced, etc. If you are looking at pricing, be ready to spend a lot more then your expecting.
Also, I'm not saying your going to crack a sleeve on the m62, but it has been done before. When you upgrade the forged pistons they can handle the abuse and some decent kr, but the sleeves just won't put up with it. Look around and you will see how many people have been cracking sleeves lately. I know one person in this thread alone who already cracked there sleeves and it's not me.
Here is a short parts list with the prices you should expect to pay. Also, don't forget to get a ported head. The head is a very restrictive part in the lsj motor and when properly ported decent gains can be seen!
Forged pistons 650
Arp Head studs 140
Darton Sleeves pressed in by darton 1500 *includes shipping the block both ways*
Cometic or GM MLS head gasket 100
GM crank bearings, GM Rod bolts, intake manifold gasket, possibly a supercharger or valve cover gasket if yours isn't looking decent.
That is just a quick run down of some of the parts you will need. The darton sleeves are around 700 and then the machining process to put them in and shipping etc makes the price right around the 1500 dollar mark. This might seem expensive, but in the long run it is a hell of a lot cheaper then a sleeve giving out.
Also if you are interested I have some diamond forged pistons, a ported head, valve springs and neutral balance shafts for sale. That's another thing too, if you want a higher redline and to spin the motor higher in general, grab some supertech 78lb valve springs and neutral balance shafts and your good to go for 8grand if not higher.
Good luck with your build and if you have any questions or need any parts let me know, I have quite a few brand new in the box things that I need to sell.

=D I <3 you!!! haha I have seen the light now lol. The more and more I think about it, it really doesn't make sense to not sleeve the block lol. Im gonna shoot you a pm 2k5ss/sc and letcha know about the build =D

What most do is a simple setup diamond piston's, cometic gasket, arp head studs.
I only know of two or three people to do rods those are when you push huge power. Pauter and crower make some (not cheap at all).
Before you play with cams play with that head there is a alot left on the table with it.
I agree with sean. I would do head work before cams and there really isn't any reason to upgrade the rods. Our stock rods are pretty beefy from the factory, luckily gm did something right lol. Sean, check your pm's and get back to me so I can place my order pumpkinz.
Sounds good! I have a spare long block, I am thinking about using the short block for them to press the sleeves into etc so I don't have as much down time, although I could use the extra money from selling it. Dunno yet.
