Redlining from 1st to 3rd
Redlining from 1st to 3rd
Hey guys, I am not that practiced on how a good clutch or stick shift car is supposed to be working, so I have a question I want to ask since it has happened to me a couple of times now.
Most of the times I am on first rolling like at 20 mph, that I step on it, u know the car peels out and starts hitting redline. Well It has happened to me that when I step on it and hit reline I shift a couple of seconds after to 2nd, but on second my rpms stay really high up and hit's redline in a matter of 2 or 3 seconds. I shifted to 3rd to see if it was grip that I didn't have or something like that but it didn't seem like it. When I was on 3rd I was probably doing 60 and I was about to hit redline. Now I am saying this because it seems to only happen when I step on it from first (sometimes) at around that speed, cause rolling at 40 from 2nd it runs nice.
I am trying to find out if maybe it has happen to any of u. Can it be my clutch that is messing that up for me??? Or the gears???
If u don't understand the explanation I gave, please let me know, I really want someone to help me with this.
I bought the car almost a month from now. From everything I have looked at it seems stock to me, except for the injen intake I put in. Any inputs on this will be really appreciated. Thanks!!!

+1 for the gm upgrade clutch....however I don't know if you are experiencing clutch slip or wheel spin. If its holding fine every time on a hard 2nd gear pull its probably wheel spin that you are getting. Try doing a hard pull in 3rd, or put it in 4th/5th at a low speed and see if it slips when you give it gas.
It seriously sounds like you just aren't used to the lsj. Our 1st gear ends really early and its normal for 2nd to be winded out to around 65-70ish depending on your redline. My 2nd gear hits redline REALLY quick when I am on it in first because my tires are spinning, has nothing to do with clutch slippage.

my car has done the same thing several times... if it was the clutch wouldnt u smell it. ud think clutch slipping like this would produce sum bad funk. ive also done the 4th gear test to see if its slips and it stalls immediately.
could it be tire spin since when i do a normal burnout they dont squeal or make any noise at all???

italianjoe still had his stock clutch at 65,000 miles and had 20+ bottles through it and could still launch it. It is all how you drive the car. I would just go with the gm upgrade clutch or let joe drive it at one of the races.
Hell I'll take it for a spin if I am out there.

my clutch never slips on me but one drunken night when my friend was driving it he tried to show off in front of some girls. he though he was accelerating fast all the way into 3rd gear but all I smelled was the clutch burning and I started yelling. my clutch still doesnt slip with me after that
Honestly it just sounds like wheel spin. If your car isn't grabbing road, it revs up much quicker. BTW I read in the first post that you "hit redline" in your first 3 gears quite often (before the problem began). That's not a good idea to be slamming into redline then shifting a few seconds later.

Nah, hard pull from 3rd or 4th won't reveal anything. Not enough torque from these engines. Big V8, yes, a good test.
When a clutch is marginal, you need to hit the torque sweet spot to get it to slip big time.
Mine has stage 2 and a stock clutch. Never abused and it will do this. It ain't wheel spin, you can feel that big time.
Smell it, maybe, but if you are moving, the smell is behind you.

Bingo!
