IMHO, there's still some throw away parts on the hahn kit. Like the injectors, the tune, the internal wastegate on the turbo, and the "no drill" oil solution. So you'd still have to spend at least an additional 400 or 500 dollars (depending on what the tuner will charge you) to replace that other stuff. Then, of course, there's the matter of the exhaust if you don't have one anyways.
Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful kit, but there's better ways to spend your money. Like buying a relatively cheaper or more efficient turbo for less money and saving to get some work done to the block (like pistons or porting the head).

****, you always seem to be the one I look towards whenever my build hits a rough patch. So far this makes save #3. I got the turbo, the belts and tenstioner, and now the downpipe. And pretty soon I might have a nice project waiting for me in the future with that ported head

I'll just go along and agree with the majority here. A turbo is going to be less stressful on the motor compared to a supercharger at the same power levels. Anytime you up the power, there are chances of failure. I was unfortunate and had a ring-land go (which happens to stock motors) and it chewed up my cylinder wall.
Tuning is key and turbochargers tend to be more dangerous because it's sooooo easy and tempting to turn up the boost. Just have realistic expectations and you'll be fine...

turning up the boost too high usually results in blowing the motor, is what i was suggesting.

this turbo thing you speak of sounds promising!

I am almost certain that I will have a reputable shop install a turbo kit on my cobalt in 3 weeks. Before I give them the go ahead, I'd like to hear from turbo swap owners if they have run into any problems. The car will have atleast two long trips within a month after the install. These will total to about 2k miles.
Car has 70k miles
After that most driving will be around town, and probably weekly 400 mile roundtrip trips, as I will be traveling to golf tournaments throughout Florida.
I'm trying to hear from people who actually own turbo lsj's. As this will be my first turbo car.

When you plan on taking the trip, just turn your boost down a few just in case. goodluck and youll fall in love with your decision.

I tubo swapped my lsj in October. As long as you dont turn the boost up like everybody says not to, youll be fine. I plan on taking a trip next week to Florida (from Michigan). I trust it 100%. Just make sure you work out the little problems such as makeing sure all your charge pipes are tight, hoses are zip tied, and everything is done properly. I bought my lsj with 80K bone stock, upgraded through the stages and went for the turbo at 120k. No serious problems since the swap besides a brand new blown turbo! (and others that werent caused by my stupididy) ;]. For the clucth,, For some odd reason, my stock clutch is holding 18psi No problem, have not had a slip yet.
