Reprograming ECU

UGH I'm having the hardest time finding someone who will even attempt to reprogram my SS =\ I think I'm going to find a Muslim eating a pork chop before I locate an SS programer. Which bites the big one because I wanted to locate someone so I can order my 2.9 pulley...... Has anyone found someone yet? Anywhere!! I'll be happy to mail off an ECU that they can tune and I'll just swap it for mine.....

you realise that no 1 can reprogram your ECU.

I dont know if J-Body Performance can do it. www.jbodyperformance.com there the only 1 I know of.

Wait also for HP Tuners. They wanted Vin codes from various cars to who the software would be advertisable. You could reprogram your ECU with a laptop.

elpaso is right there isn't anyone that can tune your computer. I think the only opition for tuning right now is to use a piggy back system.

i'm not even sure about that. I don't know of anyone who has one or a company that makes one for the SS.

I think stand-alone EMS is your only solution as of now.

There is a kit made by http://www.psifimotorsports.com/indexRedline.htm that is going to be released soon that come with a piggy back unit and a 2.8 pulley. They are in the process of updating their website now so it's not on there.

Have you looked into to psi-fi motorsports. They are making a pulley and piggy back ecu kit for the Redline and Cobalt SS/SC. I know they are darn close to done because they are installing kits on a limited number of cars right now.

http://www.psifimotorsports.com/ is there website, which has nothing on it for the redline yet, but if you call their shop and inquire I am sure they can help you out.

It's not reprogramming the stock ECU but putting on a piggy back ecu to alter the normal ECU performance. They have a lot of work into the product and I think you have a good chance of having a trouble free experience with them.

Just got back from Psi-Fi. Had the PowerPaq, 2.8"pulley, and bigger tensioner installed. I'm the first SS to have their kit installed.

Install is identical between the redline and the SS. The only diff. is they have to pull the blower off to do the pulley install. There is so little room in the SS engine bay, there is no way to get the puller in there. Take a look into a redines engine bay, HUGE difference, lots of room.

Anyway, runs great! 2hr drive home from Philadelphia, no codes.

Pulls harder through the entire rpm band, and gets better gas mileage.

Only downfall is the factory boost guage won't go past 10psi. Its not a mechanical guage, and something with the way its wired, they can't change it. You'll have to install a mechanical boost guage if you want it to read correctly, 17psi. No big deal.

Great Guys, Great Service!!! Def. good people over at Psi-Fi.

Excuse my ignorance, but don't "piggy-back" ecu programmers basically "trick" the stock computer into changing various aspects of engine management such as a/f ratio, timing, etc? I dunno.. if that's the case...are they reliable?

I don't know about super long term reliabilty but I know the Psi-Fi shop car has over 20,000 miles on it without any problems.

did u get a dyno done to see thr power increase? Did you have ecu retuned for this amount of boost? I heard that the computer can control how much boost is allowed into your motor, so could it mean that the computer isn't really letting you have 17 lbs of boost? The gage may not be wrong.

PLEASE tell me you scanned it for KR! PLEASE! a piggyback wont scan for everything. you may have good tuning, but that wont make up for the heat. Do you have a log of the scan that i can look at? what other mods do you have? exhaust? intake?

Its hard to believe that you can drop .6 off a pulley with just a tune. If i can get a scan and check it out with my own eyes and everything looks good, ill eat my words. But until then, be careful.

On the reverse side, it looks bad for big modding though. I forsee you guys quickly maxxing out your SCs. if you can drop to a 2.8 on just a tune, add headers, cams, exhaust intake, and heads, you will hit a wall fast with the sc.

So who will be the first one with a m90 swap?

Digital Horsepower has a PCM programmer they sell. No need for premapped fuel curves, you create your own! HPtuners has similar software, but its $100 more. I persoanll have DHP's PCM programmer (powertuner) and this thing is FREAKIN AWESOME! definatly worth the money. Its a little confusing at first, but you catch on quickly. They have a seperate forum just for the tuner.

Whoever asked about the belt, you will not be able to use the stock sized belt. You can get difference sizes at local parts stores. I would reccomend against gatorback as theyre only meant to be used as acc. belts. Yates belts however are GREAT for SC applications. I believe theyre sold at Oreillys.
