If you're flooring it, the needle may be just a little behind your actual rpm, especially in 1st.

Ive had this happen before. Your ecu is cutting you off because it dosent like it for some reason. Sometimes it will cut you off if it feels stress on the engine. But im shifting at 7000 now Its happened with my stage kit where it bounced at the redline I was like wtf? Ah well.

It has only happend in first. But i am alot more careful in the higher gears.

The redline is changed to 7000 with the stage kits? Holy Hell

Probably to make you buy the kit. Besides our car would cost alot more in insurance if it came that way. Im just not sure.

Yeah that too. Makes you want to redline even more.

Break it how? nothing in the valvetrain is changed with the kits... meaning they are not worried about floating valves...

The only thing i can think of is the injectors cannot keep up at 7000 hence the lower rev limiter.

But i may just be a *******...

This happens because the tachometer reads slower than the engine revs. On full throttle acceloeration, the engine is at its 6450 RPM redline when the tach shows about 6100 RPM. In second gear it hits the limiter when it shows about 6300 RPM.

GM needs to inest in a higher quality gauge cluster. This is my biggest grippe with the car!

Yeah the stock injectors can only take so much thats possible. I can see the car break by piston failure if you allways drive it at 7000.

Well if you go by the explanation, under full throttle in 1st, when the tach shows 6100, you're basically at redline. You can either shift there, or bang against for rev limited for an extra half second or so until the tach catches up. Your call I guess. Also, after driving for a time, I'm sure you can tell just by listening to the engine, but I myself haven't gotten to that point yet.

When does HP start falling?

I don't have the Stage Kit yet and i am completely stock but sometimes i can shift at 6500 and sometimes it hits the limiter at 6200-6300 in 2nd gear...I assume it's just a slow tach and the engine is really going 6500rpm.

I have seen foctory tach's be out by 500-700rpm by redline compared to a good aftermarket tach.

HP never falls on these cars...i was still climbing steady at 220WHP at 6500rpm on the dyno.

technically you should be shifting at peak hp rpms plus 500, so if you are making peak at 7000, shift at 7500.
If you keep your piston speed low, and you'r not pinging you'll be ok...it's not like the rotative assembly on a 4 slamer is that heavy...the big block is swinging a 65lb crank...

I seem to hit the limiter in 1st at like 6400 and like 6450 in all other gears. I want to get the stage 1 kit for the 7k rev limiter then get the intense stage 3! I would be scared to go to 7000 cause the needle would be deep in the red part of the tach for like 4 or 5 seconds in third gear. I guess it would be more of a psycological thing though.

Exactly. So when GM rates us at 205@5400 rpm, it's totally accurate based on most dynos that I see. Most SS/SC are putting around 175-185 to the wheels at that point. It just so happens that the power keeps building . . .
