rev limiter and torque management. Please help.

Im getting a ottp canned tune. (dont want to hear canned tunes suck cus this is my only option), and i was wondering if i should get the torque management removed and whats the highest safest redline. I will have 42# injectors and a 2.9 inch pulley. should i go 7000 or 7200 rpm's?

cause i got all the parts i need for a stage 2 pluss the pulley puller for $225.00. The only other thing i needed was a tune; so josh from ottp is gonna put a gm stage 2 thats tweeked a little bit on a pcm for me. Once everything is installed i will have spent around 320. Thats why i didnt get the ottp stage 1. ANother reason i didnt get the ottp stage kit was because with a 2.8 pulley which the ottp comes with i would need a heat exchanger or other cooling mods and im not spending money on that right now.

7200 is perfectly fine and safe...

I think when the rev limit is around 7400, you dont have to shift into 4th at the end of a 1/4 mile run.

maybe someone can answer this out and help the OP as well. When i got my Stage 2 (2.8/60lb) put in and did the tune, then chucked the car on the dyno, it would hit 215whp @ 5500rpm and nose dive in power. So we removed the trq management..then it went perfect. What does the trq management do?

Most people shouldn't be shifting to 4th anyway. 3rd ends roughly around 115 give or take.

direct quote from the hpt forums.

When the car shifts the VCM reduces the torque on the engine by pulling the timing back. This is in an effort to prolong the life of the transmission, but has a side effect of reducing power during and into new shifts. You'll notice that the car pulls harder after a shift, and holds its power through a shift.

It wont hurt to rev about 7k. Give yourself a little bumper so that you can shift at 7k instead of hitting the limiter at 7k.

My limiter is set at 7400 with 42's and a 2.9. Who ever told you that coolings mods are not needed they are wrong. They are needed but not a necessity. And a 2.8 on 42's isn't to intelligent without meth. My IDC's are 94% @7400 and yours have to be through the roof.

You do have options. You could always buy hptuners.

3rd gear in real life goes to about 106-107 at 7k right on the rev limiter. You wont trap with you mods any way. Personally I wouldn't go above 7 because the car will still rev higher. I've seen 7300 with a 7k redline. You would really be pushing your injectors anywhere past 7k.

As far as cooling mods, You don't need them. Probly wouldn't get you much of any gains just don't make long highway pulls.

Maxim, I could have sworn 3rd ends around 115 at 7k. Almost positive.

I don't know where you guys race but if your going through the traps at the top of third at 115 I need to race there. I have to shift to 4th to get 110 and if i go through on rev limit (7k) in 3rd I would be right around 106-107 at the most. I know I've done it many many times.

That's on the stock wheels as well. When I finally get my 16's this year I am sure I will be closer to the top of 4th going through the traps.

I think it's your tire setup. I remember seeing pics of your car with rims and such.

I've only ever raced on stock rims. The pics of my car with rims were just of my winter wheels and snow tires. They, for my best interest, come off well before i go to the track. I don't know how much traction I would get with snow tires LOL. I'm surprised you noticed that though good eye.

Honestly though I have no doubt in my mind that I don't get past 107 in third gear on rev limit. I have a second home in the staging lanes in the summer and I've been down that track more times than are healthy. All of them on stock size tires on stock wheels. I wonder what the difference could be....
