robertmichaels goes to the dark side (LSJ-T)

So with my future build parts starting to arrive I figured I would make a build thread.. This way i can also have you fellow members of CSS help me with some more technical aspects of the build; being my first time going to the wonderful world of turbo and first time building an engine.

so my current mod list:

-1320 TVS with 2.9" pulley
-ZZP 3" intake
-ZZP phenolic intake spacer
-ZZP stage 2 supercharger cams
-82# valve springs
-OTTP return fuel system
-AEM E85 fuel pump
-I.D. 1000cc injectors
-Neutral balance shafts
-MrB hardened timing guide bolts
-ATI overdrive dampner
-ZZP long tube header and now catless catted DP
-stock midpipe to custom SLP loudmouth II duel exit
-Powell v5 YYZ with koni inserts
-Hawk DTC-70 breaks with stock rotors
-motul 600 brake fluid
-N2MB WOT box

So my future plans are to start off with 500-550WHP and move up in the future

Future mods list;

-OTTP turbo kit with s257FMW (on its way)
-OTTP stage 2 turbo cams (on the way)
-Performance auto werks stage 2 transmission and adding LSD
-not sure on clutch kit yet
-looking at ZZP gen 3 LSJ block with 9.0/1 JE pistons and ZZP rods
=> need to find more information about the block first. Does all my current LSJ componants bolt up such as oil pan, head, timing componants, ect... if anyone has information that would be great

There is a ton more I would like to do but that is my budget for 2016.. The car is going to be used as a summer weekend fun/ part summer daily and also used at open track days seeing as I had so much fun at Road America the other year and want to go back

More to come

Update 12/10/15- Got the innovate SCG-1 boost controller and AFR gauge

OP - very nice numbers and power curve on the TVS.

Question though... how come you didn't rev it higher? Power was still rising at 7k+

Good luck with the snail.

Yes everything will bolt up to a Gen 3 block except the oil cooler but ZZP will supply you with a new one. Don't reuse your timing set, get a new one from CED for piece of mind.

I'm not sure how much fun you'll have on the road course with this turbo set up compared to your TVS. If I was to track a car it would be with a TVS set up.

It was where we had it set, it was street tuned and then took it to a dyno competition and then never got around to raising the limit and re-tuning

that event wasn't autoX, it was open track day at Road America back when I was still m62 and pretty much stock

Nice RA video. It would be interesting to see your lap times with TVS vs turbo once complete.

Road America is a lot of fun... until one day it isn't

I agree. The turbo that the OP picked out is too big for RA or any autox. 500+whp is not going to be usable in a fwd car on a track.

I think it should spool like a 252 because its a newer wheel design.

Even my 252 doesn't spool like a TVS lol. It's the instant power on tap and linear power curve that will take it down around a track.

I've only ever driven a stock turbo blat once, and it was fun, the lag was noticeable... my little M62 pushes ~2psi of boost at 1000rpm with the stock pulley, having the instant, smooth power delivery is very useful and friendly on the trakc.

you should probably downshift every once in a while if youre seeing 1000rpms on a course

Yes the turbo was a bit big for road course but its also my summer fun car, which is the main goal of this build, yes I enjoy tracking my car but its expensive to do that more than a few times a year especially at RA

The spool isn't the problem because while cornering the rpms will be in the 4-5k range. The problem is how the power comes on and how fast it comes on. That is what makes it hard to modulate in a corner so your car doesn't push you off the track with tire spin.
