Scary Story

Well, for the past week and a half I've been doing the dual pass intercooler mod. After fighting with it forever and struggling to get the stupid air out of the system, I test fired the car for the first time in almost 2 weeks... at 5:19 AM!!! My car does not like to be modded AT ALL! It fights and resists the whole way BUT when the mods are done they never cause problems again. This mod was insane, one thing after another, but I got it done and buttoned up. Today I took the car for a test run and, it didn't fell very fast, when I looked at my boost gauge I only saw 15 psi boost? Then I hit the gas one more time just to make sure and heard it, BANG!!! FLOP FLOP FLOP CLUNK CLUNK. At this time smoke begins to seep from the edge of my hood, I get quiet and calm and find the nearest place to turn in as the car clunks clangs and smokes down the road. When I finally reach a parking lot I pull in and turn the car off which it lets a nice loud screech as it reaches 0 rpm. There I sit both hands on the wheel with my forhead in the center. One of my hands shakily reaches for the hood release. As I open the hood I see the almost movie like plume of smoke billow out of the engine compartment...
In the end, causes of the problems were...
BANG = 3 of the 6 ribs on the belt decided to walk away from the rest of the belt system and snapped
FLOP FLOP FLOP = the newly seperated belt slapping the undercarage of the car
CLUNK CLUNK = The seperated belt hitting the front edge of the engine bay
The Smoke = some strands of seperated belt flew back and landed on my header thus causing a large release of smoke.
Reason the belt snapped? While putting the belt on this morning at 5 AM, I was tired and fatigued and didn't relize/see that the belt twisted 180 degrees from the tensioner pulley to the alternator pulley then twisted back 180 degrees to the supercharger pulley. This would also explain only getting 15 psi (belt can grab on very good if its twisted). Scary times, just glad it wasn't something serious.
Thank God I was using a GM stage 2 belt and still had the stock one.
Here is MOST of the belt, all of what I could find or what didn't get burned up.

At least you didn't get hurt and you can easily fix it. Lesson learned: Learn from other peoples mistakes, folks.

Well I don't have a scan gauge, but from previous runs, I could feel after a being at high boost the car start to loose power from too much heat. I can't feel any power loss from a 0-125 mph run, and the intercooler endplate was only luke warm after that run

Damn you got lucky man.

Atleast everything is fine.

I will say that you did a good job of explaining the situation...most people would have put:

"OMG my car is smoking, i looked, belt, smoke!, more smoke!, i was pissed, grr...help!"

lol
