so why are full length intakes so much better

alright, i have never had so much trouble buying a stupid intake for a vehicle..

my focus had 3 different
ranger had two
corolla has aem
dakota had airaid
contour was custom with k&n

now the SS... i see many people bashing the aem, yet its a great design and fixes the largest problem other then the flex section before the throttle body, the piping goes almost rectangle at two locations yet the truw diameter stays the same. so why spend 200+ on an intake when you can spend 170+a 3 dollar 3" 45 degree coupling from lowes at the throttle body.

if someone in dallas can lend a hand i want to do a back to back dyno with as close as temps as i can do with a nice cooldown between. say someone with a k&n lend a hand or injen...vs the aem.

cause from what im seeing its not really worth it. has anyone actually tested intake air temps vs. ambient or does everyone just say "well it felt cooler"

the point is when the engine compartment heats up you are sucking hot air....

if you are cooling down in between runs, obviously there won't be a difference.
dont take my word for it, why do you think K&N has a heat shield on the short ram intakes?

mostly for show as many of the headsheilds won't barely do a thing for heat over a period of time. i have tested it. also made me money making them

sure the heats up...and let me claify, by meaning short i mean aem. its a simple 45 degree bend onto the factory unit. the best intakes i have ever used were not metal...the worst i have ever used for temps were metal, while cruising and at idle.

Wrap it in Heat Wrap so the intake doesn't transfer heat. Also wrap your header.

Just like K&N and the rest, AEM still throws codes and still doesn't offer the same HP rating as say K&N, Injen or Fujitta. Sure your replacing the stock airbox and a little piping but they all soak heat and use the same filter technology. One has to copy off the other but offer supposed differences over the other. In the end you get the same performance out of any of them it's just how much your willing to spend on a name.

Same designs, same technology, same filters, ever so slightly different results. Not sure how a pipe and a filter can gain more over another.. the computer in the end calculates how much air ones is grabbing over the other and the velocity, speed and angle the air comes in. Case you didn't notice it's not replacing the MAF, just placing it in different areas of each intake design. Hardly a noticeable difference in any intake. If you think ones better over the other your crazy in the head.

exactly, and thats my point...in the end its all the same. hell some of the best intakes that show road worthy gains for the strip put down the lowest numbers. this is why i want to see why people truely think one is so much better then another...with actual proof. not numbers.

not only is not changing the maf but throwing off the calibration which is a large problem for many models. i wish gran. or even pro-m was still around to make a housing for us. but i guess we like our mods list to grow and are so happy with our peak dyno numbers. (which most i see aren't even corrected)

ok, let me rephrase. u are not going to notice any worthwhile increases, but after a few runs the full length intake will be slightly more efficient.

if you ask my honest opinion... who the hell cares, an intake is an intake. they all do the same thing.

can u find a neutral ground with that?
