Spark Advance?

I've been doing some data logging checking some parameters with the car.

Spark Advance.

What should it be at idle.. What should be at WOT?

Is spark advance different than timing or is it the same thing?

If someone can explain, that would be amazing. Thanks

just in neutral in my driveway

lame answer
I thought anything above 25 with meth was a little much
but 42??? just a quick rev in the driveway????

I'll have to log it while on the road to see if it's any different
i'm not using hpt.

Spark advance = timing

Depending on your tune it will be different.

Stock at WOT is like 3* midrange 9* up top. On E85 I'm tuned for 28* up top and about 17* midrange.

93 should be somewhere in the range of 10-16*

No, when the car not under load the timing is ramped up in order to keep it from stalling. 42* is normal for no load at 3k+ rpm.

Here's an example of one of the stock timing tables. Notice the far left column.. that's idle.

Ah hell... for an LNF thats idle lol

Disregard all my posts because I'm an idiot.

99% of the time when someone mentions timing they are talking about wot timing. I am a noob at tuning and borrowed hpt for a week and got the gist of it. Timing tables are easy to read once you get how it works and I havent used graphs/spreadsheets in several years.

Log a drive and pull then watch it in the histogram under main spark/knock retard comparing cylinder airmass v rpm to see the cells it hits and that will help you under stand it.

Something a good tuner told me is if u are getting knock in 2 or more successive cylinders then taking .5 deg out of the first cell to knock and maybe .5 out of the cell before the one to knock usually stops it.

Also dont assume you are knocking because of the tune as you might have gotten a batch of bad gas.

Hey dude this is my timing map for my 2.7" pulley, and 93 octane & spraying 100 % distilled water instead of meth, and im getting 0 KR, the timing table should probably be one of the last table to work on, you wanna work on the VE and MAF table 1st, there's a lot of stuff to adjust to make power safely with methanol you can push the timing up safely but i personally dont want to rely on it so i tune without meth and just use the pump for water cooling and it works very well so im running up to 20 degrees of timing and an AFR from 12.2 that goes down to 11.7 safely with no problems...If you would like a copy of my tune just for comparision purposes only let me know !

That looks pretty realistic, I'm running 17-18* in the same area you're running 20* with a more restrictive than stock exhaust, 2.8" pulley and no water/meth. Unless you dont hit that part of your map. I cant convert for maf to SD in my head like that.

The lower right portion of that table is begging for a lot of hand smoothing. You have a 7* drop off there, which it is always better to keep it smooth, even if the car doesnt generally see that particular portion of the table
