Spark plug help

Well I recently went 1 step colder in plugs when I dropped down to a 2.85" pulley, and not sure I really needed to. When I shift I get a puff of black smoke, and if I am not mistaken that means I am running a little rich. Now my questions are: Should I go back to a stock heat range plug and what should I use? Also if I am running a little rich and stay 1 heat range colder do you guys thing it would be ok to drop down to a 2.8" pulley or so for the track? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Pull the plugs and see what coloration and depositing you have. You can tell just by that often what is wrong and see if the car is burning at the ideal range. It would be a good starting point. Just my inexperienced opinion anyway. Lot of wiser people on here.

Most all cars smoke black at WOT. Especially factory tuned ones. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

With the 1 step colder plugs would it be ok to run a 2.79 or a 2.8 at the track?

I have them on with my 2.7 so sure they work fine. As long as you have cooling, porting, and a tune for the pulley that low. I don't think you need -2 plugs until you get to the 2.5.

What would be a good stock replacement? Would it NGK BRK8E? I am going to pull the BRKE7E's and see what they look like this sunday.

I had the autolites and assumed they were part of my problem. I am about to put in the BKR7Eix and try them. I'm hoping they work better, but you are not liking them or you had the normal 7E not the 7Eix? My autolites weren't burning right at all, part of it might be the tune, sensors.. I'll let you know how the new plugs do also changing them sunday.

Take a look at this http://www.dansmc.com/Spark_Plugs/Sp...s_catalog.html you can find stuff like this many places, but it gives you a good reference when looking at your plugs.

The diffrence between the BKR7E and the BKR7Eix is that the ix is iridium and is still one step colder if I am not mistaken.
