Spray Wash Engine Bay??
I wash cars at a dealership, and we never cover anything. I've never had a problem. I'f you're concerned though, cover your alternator. People around here usually spray on diluted simple green and spray. At work we use our pre-soak and spray with a pressure washer.
^^^ what he said. If you go over it, you'll be fine, just don't focus on an electrical connector. A quick pass though won't really hurt, they're pretty much all waterproof.

Im a detailer at a dealership to. Just leave the car running and and soak with degreaser, if air filter is visible cover it or avoid it. Then just spray it down with pressure washer, and maybe use a towel to dry water off better.
