Smile SS/SC Drivetrain

Are our drivetrains/ engine tranny made by Chevy? It's all GM performance parts? Is that right?

Tranny is Getrag and came over from the SAAB models, the engine is GM, originally from the Opel/Vauxhall division but I read a couple of places where Lotus also had some imput in tuning the LSJ.

The MU3 manual transmission is not getrag. It's FGP F35 thats taken from the Saab 9-3.

FGP = Fiat-GM Powertrain

The Getrag is standard in the 2.2 and 2.4 manual transmissions.

Really? Wow, I didn't know that because a lot of the technical reviews and stuff had said it was a Getrag, that's handy to know.

Yeah that is right. It is FIAT sourced 5 speed, used in GM's SAAB's for the last few years. The engine was biult in Germany by GM's European division of Opel and Vauxhall, however I understand that since the Cobalt SS came out, it is being produced in the US now as well. Next year the HHR will also get the 205HP 2.0L Supercharged ECOTEC that we have in our SS's along with the same FGP 5-speed. Redlines engines were still built in Germany when it was introduced I think. I would imagine their engines are now produced in the states as well.

Believe it or not on the GM US site the transmission is incorrectly listed as the F25 Getrag. If you check GM canada it's actually listed correctly.

Good catch. I noticed that too. The US site also has listed the incorrect gear ratios, and final drive ratio for the SS Supercharged. The Cndn site lists the proper gear ratios and final drive ratio for the Cobalt SS Superhcarged FGP F355 transmission.

GM Canada: http://www.gmcanada.com/english/vehi...specifications

Chevrolet.com: http://www.chevrolet.com/cobalt/spec.../#transmission

The Canadian site is not updated with the 2006 model info yet unfortunately.

OK then, so I'm NOT crazy, I thought it said that but then I thought "No, I'm just crazy." Well at least not as far as that info goes...can't say as I can speak for not being crazy in general
