SS/SC Going Goodbye!?!?!?!

So I was at the dealer today and the service tech said that there is talk going on saying that for 07 the SC is going to be an option on the SS, and that in 08 the SS will only be offered with the 2.4L N/A motor. He was told this was to make way for the Camaros release in the summer of 08 as an 09 model.

If you look at the way GM has gone with the SS badge on the Cobalt I see his claim as being legit. 05 it was only SS/SC, 06 2.4L and sedan came out as an option for the SC, supposedly 07 the SC becomes the option.......

The only way to tell is by just waiting til 2008. There is so much BS going around about the LSJ getting booted to make room for the LNF or the camaro or whatever. **** it, just sit back and wait and see what happens

I have what I want. I really don't give a crap if they stop making it or not. I've heard that they are going to put the Solstice GXP's turbo on the '08. but agian, who the hell cares? I can spend about $1100 and get 260hp. So Gm can now bite my ass.

Let me let you in on a secret. If this happens your dealership and especially your techs will be the last to know. So my advice is to go in tomorrow and tell him he's a moron and a liar and for your troubles he should hook you up with a stage 2 kit for free.

Probably because the 08 2.0L SS will have a turbo. and so they will offer a SC for the 2.4L

That seems highly unlikely because they would have to retune the ECU for the 2.4 and probably a lot of other things too. Plus I can't see them offering two FI choices on the same platform. It just doesn't make any sense at all.

Thats something ford would do. redundant-ass options. besides, the 2.4 with the SC and the 2.0 with a turbo would probably yield very close Hp numbers, which would be moronic

In all seriousness, would it make any sense for GM to spend all of the money on R&D for a new car, the SS/SC cobalt, introduce it in 05, just to scrap it by 09? no. It does not. But at any rate, I've got mine, so I don't mind so much if they do cut it, just makes my car more unique and rare. I got the car because I didn't want to be driving a car that every 3 out of 10 people drove (ie civic)

No. Dodge did it with the Neon. The Neon went bye-bye because it wouldnt meet new safety standards. And since the SRT-4 is a Neon it went bye-bye too.(memo to srt-4 owners. It's a nice car. But it is a Neon.)

Dodge did not just drop the option to have the turbocharged version while other model levels continued.

Can we move this to the general discussion instead of the tech?

Its not AWD ....just a front driver DCX claimed a capable AWD to handle the HP/TQ was way out of budget .

Your turbocharged ignorance is just that, ignorance. Know what you're talking about before you open your mouth.

Im assuming that the 08 whatever they call it, wil be a turbo car. The lordstown plant is already taking on the tooling to produce the opel astra chasis in 08. It was on the local news a few months back.....

The Astra is going to be imported from Belgium . They have no plans to make it here .

If they stop making the Cobalt, then so be it. You guy already have your Coblts, so you'd be driving a pretty rare car. I know I harly never see Cobalt SS's

Oh, and the neon had a long run, the last gen neon was when they started to make the SRT-4, for only 3 years. Yes, it is only a Neon, and I won't start a flame war or I don't want to be the guy that kills the thread, but if a Neon is a car to be "ashamed" of or to be looked down on, then why in the hell did so many people buy them? Please don't use the excuse, "Becuse they wanted to go fast in a straight line.", because its nots the case. I believe DCX only planned on maing 5k of them in 03, but they sold out quick and people wanted more, before you know it, over the 3 year stretch, 25,000 were made, and I believe if you check autotrader with a national search, you'lkl see there are about 2 left that are brand new. With all due respect to the Cobalt and you guys (because i do love the Cobalt), why is it that hardly anyone drives Cobalt SS's? The cars cost the same, similar in peformance, and the Cobalt has a nice interior? So it seems like the Cobalt is a better deal, but then why did so many people get the SRT-4? I guess a "Neon" isn't that bad of a car to have then, huh?

Sorry for the rant guys, but I jut don't understand what makes a Cobalt, Lancer, or Impreza so much nicer then a Neon.
