SS/SC Oil Changes
I know that a lot of people change it at 3k to be safe, but i dont wanna put oil in my car that often because its a lotta work and costs $$$. How often do you think that i should do my oil changes assumin i use Mobil 1.
You can follow your oil life meter which is fairly accurate. It also depends on your driving styles and what type or brand of oil you put in.
Being as your an ss/sc you should be on a 5 to 7K mile oil change schedule.

Its also an LS
I change mine every 3000-3500 miles. I change the filter every 1500-1750 miles. I know I could go way longer but I dont want to, just like to keep the oil clean and in tip top shape at all times. I run nothing but Royal Purple 5w-30, but I know there are a lot of other good oils out there. That is just an oil I have had much sucess with personaly.
follow your oil life meter, unless your heavaly modified
anyone changing less than 4,000 miles is not helping your car at all... you're just hurting your wallet... there is no added benifit whatsoever to changing your oil more than you're supposed to... can it hurt the car? not really... but it's not helping it any either... change it when you're supposed to...
I follow my oil meter --- and I added Lucas to the mix --- it extends the oil life quite a bit. Mileage improves as well.
I was told by other oil change places that the SS/SC has to go to the dealer for the oil change --- as they have to move the supercharder to do it --- and it will void the warranty if it isnt done by GM. has anyone else heard that ?

problem with the dealership is the make the change take n hour for the labor fee
when i had mine done the oil was done in like 25 min, the rest of the time they "filled up all fluids for free" how filling up washer, trans, coolant, fluid takes 30-40 min? i am not sure...effin rip off

The answers to that are no, and no. All you need is an extention and a 32mm socket and the filter comes right off. As for the warranty, GM cannot FORCE you to go to the dealer for oil changes. If you REALLY want to be on the safe side, record the mileage and keep receipts for all oil and filter purchases to make a record that you performed the normal maintenance schedule and used the factory spec oil and filter.
In an ideal world under "average" driving conditions, Mobile-1 and other synthetics have the potential to run up to 10k/12mo. HOWEVER, what you need to be careful of is excessive stop and go driving, driving in areas with high levels of dirt in the air. All of those factors reduce the time interval between oil changes. The oil life monitor takes care of the stop-and-go stuff by monitoring different engine readings, but it DOES NOT monitor levels of dirt in the oil. So if I"m doing a lot of driving in dirty areas like construction zones and things of that nature, I change the oil closer to 50%. Otherwise I try and change it around 25%.
Some car manufacturers flat out refuse to change synthetic before 10k miles. My best friend has a MINI Cooper S, took it to the dealer for an oil change at 3000 miles and they consistently told her no, it'll go 10k, we don't like to do early oil changes. So she just quit going to the dealer and just does all the changes herself.

People will NEVER be swayed on this issue.
I will always change my oil at 3k miles.
Period.
I buy my own oil, and take it to the dealership. They charge me $19.95 (CA) and every 5th oilchange is free.
My dad taught me from a young age, that a fresh oilchange never hurt an engine.
but stretching it out can.

Yup.... 3-3500 miles for me and always will! Clean oil always runs better PERIOD! I don't care if it says it lasts 200,000 miles I wouldn't! Plus the filter only lasts 3000 so in doing so you need to change the oil too!
i was at 3950 and oil life said 42% but being thats the first one i should have got it sooner, ill prob let the next one go a bit, i would never go past 5k, i dont care what any sensor says or how much it costs
I've only done one oil change thus far, at the 3 month mark. It was a breeze with the right tools thanks to the how-to!
Torque wrench set to 25nm/18ft-lbs, 10" extension, universal joint (the how-to doesn't list the joint, but I found it makes it A LOT easier), and a 1 1/4" socket (short), can make you look forward to changing your oil!

You can also do it with a wrench, just take off the intercooler resevior and push it down, you will be able to stick the wrench in from the front and take out the filter. Thats how I do it, mainly because I already have the wrench and I don't have the socket. It all works though.
