Stage 1 + 2 kit problems
Hey everyone, I just had my stage 1 + 2 kits installed on my '05 Cobalt SS (dealer price $650 without labor costs) and im just letting you know if they have no experience with performance vehicles (like the gm dealer nearest to me) they could quite easily **** up lol. They installed the kit.....seemed to be running excellent. I was immediately amazed when after filling up my tank with 93 octane i was hitting 16 psi in third gear (tears in my eyes). About 2 days later I was driving at 40 mph in 4th gear...just cruising lol...and suddenly a loud "tack tack tack" ing began....my motor almost seized up...near stall then recaught itself...I pulled over, popped the hood, and saw that my belt turning my pulleys was being chewed up. The tear started in the right side (side closest to supercharger). A day later the tear happened again. I brought the vehicle back to have it serviced with my questions of their work. What I think is the problem is that they incorrectly aligned the pulleys so that somewhere in the pulley system the right side of the belt was rubbing. This would explain why when I first got the vehicle back there was a loud ticking noise (similar to the ticking noise the blower makes at stock, but a bit more intense). If anyone has a similar problem to this please let me know what was going wrong or just what you think of this little story. Either way, can't beat that GM warranty haha

We had the same problem with the dealer. The Tech who did the work accidently got the belt looped over one of the many pulleys in the system, and once it worked its way around it looped off on all of them and eventually chewed off an entire rib of the belt. Destroyed the belt and the idler pulley as well as the hood carpet.
Definitely recommend double checking the dealers work when they get it done for you. Make sure they mated up the new stage2 pulley flush with the S/C snout and all that. Our dealer thought it wasnt his mistake and went back and destroyed the blue bolts trying to line up the idler with the s/c pulley thinking they alignment was bad (they dont line up perfect, not supposed to). Only made things worse.
But that's all over with. Just be weary of dealers who havent done it.

Yea...
Yea my dealer immediately suspected that the pulley bolts need to be flush like the stock ones were...or some ****...but im worried that this is not the solution to the problem....what exactly did you do (or have the dealership do) to completely fix the problem? Thanks -
Belt
I just brought the car back to the GM dealership that had done the work, showed them what they did to my belt lol, and they ordered the belt next day air. Should be in right now and being worked on right now.... Hopefully the find what rent wrong, but it sounds exactly like your problem. One rib from the belt tore off...then the next day it started chewing on the next rib.......i'd imagine eventually the belt wouldn't be touching anything and would run fine (after a few tears lol) but **** that i'm not driving around in a car with estimated 250 hp with a torn belt.....GM dealerships in a hick town that work on trucks all day suck.....BEWARE...thank you Fort Kent, ME Valley Auto
