Stage 2 = Not worth it.

I have been trying to do alot of research on the stage 2 and for the cost and all i figured that going bigger injectors and smaller pully is the way to go. I still have alot of a warranty left but if i need to i can always swap back to stock before going to the dealer. What do you guys think is the best route for injectors and a pully + tune... Plus if i go back to stock if anything happens can the dealer notice at all?

So why do you say stage 2 not worth it but yet what you want to do is pretty much the stage 2 just not from gm?

The only downside is that your going to have to tune your car to the new injectors... its almost worth just having GM do it, unless you find a deal on the pulley, the hub that will fit, smaller belt and the larger injectors, and know someone with a tuner or know where to get one cheap, then its worth ditching GM...

... May I add that tunes arent that cheap ...

Sorry...but 40hp and retainment of factory warranty for about 500 bucks is more than worth it. You may be able to do it cheaper by piecing together a set of your own but it's likely the canned tune from any of those other companies is not going to be all that great.

Dealer can tell the difference between hubs and bolts on the s/c, but they may not look. As for injectors, they're pretty much not going to check. Oh...and they put on a carb exempt sticker, if you don't have that they're pretty much going to know.

all of that is easy and cheaper than spending $6-700 on stage 2.

well 60s cheapest are going to be 150, but your going to need a harness, unless you buy the gm 60s which are expensive, so thats another 50, were at 200... pulley with a hub, smaller belt, and all the necessary pieces, 150 unless you find a good deal... so thats 350 right there... than no less than 200 bucks for a good tune... its just about the same right there... Id go for a cold air and a exhaust before you do the stage...

Jimbo is right... it is possible to do all of that for half of the price, if you shop around...

Need cooling mods for the 2.8's heat soak.
Don't be surprised if they can tell you took the stock pulley off if you need warrenty work done.

I found the entire stage 2 kit (without the injectors) for 50 bucks... hopefully i can find some cheap 42 Gm stage 2 injectors that someone wants to sell so i dont have to worry about the adapter harness, im hoping no more than 150 for that, so thats only 200 right there... im getting a tune in fl for a pretty good price, and as far as getting stuff put on im pretty good friends with a mechanic... my roomates cousin... so i got a little help

I'm planning on pretty well the same thing, but I don't have any warranty(insurance rebuild ). I don't know if every dealer is bad about warranty work, but up here they gave me the runaround about the K&N intake on my old 2.4. Funny thing is I took it in for a doorhandle rattle and a loose e-brake.
Something tells me if they figure out you've done work they'll try and shoot you down.
Edit: $50 for the pulley/belt? That's hawt.

Pulley + hub=100 bucks
42lbers flow matched with harness=200-250 bucks
shorter belt-40 bucks
PCM tune=100-200 bucks
Shipping=25 bucks

That's about 500 bucks without the installation. This is kind of a fruitless discussion...gmpp stage 2 is not really more expensive than buying it yourself.

Maybe if you buy used, but you have to be able to do the install yourself and have access to hp tuners or pay for it yourself.

I'd assume correct. Plus they'll know if they reflashed it or not.

Yep your right , if the dealer suspects a tune they can check the history even if it's been flashed back. If you want to go with 60's and a 2.8 then just take responsibility for your own repairs. GM's your manufacturer, not your sponser.

The retaining of the factory warranty alone makes a $550 S2 from CED more than worth it. You're on your own if something breaks with a custom setup. If that doesn't matter to you, by all means go with custom. There's more power to be had and it can be done for cheaper than trying to muck with modding and keeping the S2 parts at the same time.

Not that I advocate dealer fraud, but can they detect if the PCM has been removed or swapped with another? I see buying an aftermarket PCM and doing a little swappage getting around this reflash limitation pretty quick. I hope for their sake GM thought of that.
