Stage 2 - 91 vs 93 Octane
Stage 2 - 91 vs 93 Octane
Does anyone have HPT logs comparing the 2 or know if a stage 2 car will knock significantly more on 91 octane than it would on 93+?
The reason I'm asking is there are only a couple of out of the way stations that sell 93 octane in my area and I'm wondering if it's worth it to drive the extra distance to get the 93. Or do I just stay with the 91 octane.
Thanks... And and please don't say 93 is better because I already know that. I'm asking HOW much better
Thanks again.

I would have to ask Brian for the log... if he still has it. There is a pretty big difference and I would not have thought it without seeing it.
We were tuning the spark advance and on WOT runs we kept pulling timing... all the way till 15-16 with a 11.6 AFR. Trying to figure out WTF was up I asked the wife what she put in it (its her car) She said 91 down at the local gas station. It had 2 notches from empty so I got a bottle of octane booster and filled it up with 93.
On the next few runs we could get all the way to 22-23 degrees before knock. So those 2 octane points were worth 6 degrees of timing.

And nice truck you have too.
Yeah... the 93 is often .20@ gallon more but its well worth the extra cost. On the GM stage 2 tune I am not sure if you will get quite the added benefit but it cant hurt.
Thanks for the compliments on the truck....its a never ending project. Hopefully here soon I will be able to post another 100HP/300TQ above the last dyno tune
