Hey all, thinking about getting the GM stage 2 for my '06 Cobalt ss/sc. Anybody know how much this would be for parts and labor at a Chevy dealership. Just wondering how much i need to save up. Thanks...

probally looking at 600-1000 range, im not really sure what the exact price would be, but if your not worried about warranty. there is many supporting vendors that make kits that can make the same or more power than the gm stage 2, for cheaper.....but if you still want warranty, some of these vendors also sell the gm stage 2 kit.....

your likely to be charged 2.5 to 3.5 hours worth of labor and parts pricing is random and depends on where you get the kit

be careful...if you buy your parts from anywhere other than the dealer...they do not have to warranty the parts...so for instance if you buy your stage kit from GMPARTSDIRECT for 550..sure you save a couple hundred bucks...but if the belt is shitty and needs replacing...you will have to get the new belt and the dealership will recharge you for labor installing the new belt. Its not worth the hassle to buy your parts from anyone other than the dealer if you still have a warranty, trust me...I have had this happen already.

xactly. most dealers wont be **** about where it was purchased as long as it was an authorized gm parts dealer but check with your dealership first before making any deciding factor

I am a dealership, Saturn of West Chester PA, we are a gmpp certified seller and your dealership is legally required to honor warranty issues if installed by your gm dealership and purchased from us

They do not have to pay for the labor to reinstall a faulty part that you did not purchase through them. Trust me...I already did the legal research on the subject.

It is not their fault that you bought a faulty part through someone other than them, therefore they are not legally obligated to eat the cost on labor as their techs did not mess up the install, therefore they are not responsible for reinstalling parts just because the part is faulty. Legally it is no different than buying and aftermarket belt and bringing it to them and telling them you wan to replace the belt on your car with this one and expecting them to eat the cost. Dealerships may vary on how much of an ass they want to be about it...but they are not "legally" obligated to eat the labor costs if the part craps out for any other reason than poor installation if the part was not purchased through them...again...talked to me aunt about it (an attorney).

So to the other guy who started the thread. Save yourself a bunch of hassle, just purchase the parts through the dealership where you are getting it installed or ask them how they would handle the situation, but don't assume anything. I would just save myself the drama and not worry about the 100 bucks you would save...peace of mind is much better than a 100 bucks in your wallet. just my 2 cents

Thanks everyone for the info.. Looks like it will be around $800 installed and yeah it looks like the dealership is the best way, I still want to keep my warranty since I only have 5200 miles on my Cobalt. I'll talk to my buddy who is a service tech at my local dealership, who knows maybe I can get a discount.

$950 Canadian installed.

quoted 2 hours install. took them 6 hours (their first one)

dont worry to much, they probably just had trouble getting the pully off, and didnt want to damage anything.
