stage 2 gas milage

im 18 i just bought an 06 cobalt SS/SC and im thinking about putting the stage 2 in it and was wondering how much it effects the gas milage thanks

Well considering your 18 and probably have a heavy foot and since you just bought the car and probably want to pound on it all the time, then my guess is it will hurt the mpg slightly.

well i went from a 97 z28 to this so im already gettin about 10mpg better then before and im not really that hard on the cobalt

I know what your saying there. I traded in my Avalanche for my Cobalt.

Although my car before the Avalanche got decent mileage and was fun to drive. I still wish I had it around sometimes.

I just had the STG 2 installed and a Injen CAI & before the CAI and STG2 I was getting 19-20 in town & 29 on the highway & now after the both I get 23-24 intown & 31-33 on the highway now thats at 75 to 80 MPH so I figure if I drove a bit slower I'd get a tad better.

so for me I tend to get better MPG with the STG2 kit and a CAI as I believ the CAI is a must for the STG kits

Well in my LS1 and LT1 cars and my Mustang GT I seen better MPG with tuning.

The larger injectors will have no effect on MPG and no matter what pulley size you will only see less MPG when boosting.

Stage 2 Fuel economy

According to the test results I saw the EPA estimated fuel economy from the offical emissions certification did not change with a Stage 2 kit. However, If you use the extra power you have you will burn more fuel.

Honestly when I didn't have stage 2 I was getting 22.5 with just an Injen CAI
Now after having stage 2 for a month or so my car is getting 23.8
So I don't know what to say about that and I am dead serious. I had a CEL before stage2 it's gone now but that might have been the difference.

Who the hell cares. You buy a car to make it fast and then you actually make it fast. Then all the sudden you are like oh I'm not sure if I want to spend the extra money to go fast. Ask ANYONE, the speed/reliability of your car is equivalent to the size of your wallet.

Thanks. I put a lot of time and money into it before finally trading it in on my old Avalanche. It was definitly a fun car to drive.

im thinkin one of the main non-technical reasons that you get better mpg with tuning any car is that the car is faster and you need to accelerate less to get to a desired speed, therefor you burn less gas. but thats imo

What about adding a lightened flywheel... my brother droped a fidanza flywheel and a centerforce clutch in his 2000 Sentra SE...he got closer to 40 MPG with those and an Ingen intake. Anyone have that?

on what basis?
u have a faster car, u feel the need to punch it more
the car is faster, it uses more fuel
if u are spending this money on performance, you will use the potential more often than the average driver
..... its not like you are burning gas accelerating slow, having a faster car helps that?

... just think thru ur opinion a bit more and i think u'll get it.

it would make sense that a stage 2 tune is more efficient than stock tho. i kno my car runs REALLLLY rich right now

hrmmm. thats interesting, you get better gas mileage with the mods? I would have thought you would get worse. Amazingly though, you guys are getting lower averages than I. My stock 06 SS/SC I'm getting 23-25 miles per gallon averages, aprox 280-310 per tank. I reset it every tank. I use 93-94 octane fuel.

looks like I'd prolly get 25-27 with those mods. /shrug

Stage 2 and CAI I get better fuel economy. I was getting 400 kms per tank now I get almost 500 around 470 480 per tank.

Before Stage 2 I consistantly got 25-26 MPG. After Stage 2 it is 26-27 MPG. Of course if I get into it playing with Hondas or others (There is an over abundance of ricers around here for some reason. And they ALWAYS want to race me... ) before stage 2 with petal floored I think I got like 12-13 MPG and with stage 2 it is like 8-9. So there is definately a little trade off there...

Are you guys actually calculating it or are you reading it off the DIC. The reason I asked is I wonder if GM took the time to recal the MPG averaging for the larger injectors. If not it would read that you ar getting better MPG because it thinks the shorter pulse width of the larger injectors is less fuel than it really is.

The computer is adjusted to the new injectors and it knows how much fuel it is using at a given time......there is no additional reprogramming needed. If the computer thought it was sending less fuel than it was the cars would be running like **** and throwing lean codes like no-ones business with the added air from the pulleys with the stage kits......

After stage2 I have seen about 35 mpg pure highway according to the computer and got almost 400 miles to the tank. And of course I didn't run the tank dry so i know they are damn close. But we can't fully confirm the computers numbers because we only see tenths of a mile when the computer usese much more accurate numbers than that. Not to mention the fact that you never fill your tank with the same amount of fuel....

Everytime I calculate mine it is consistantly 2 MPG lower than what the DIC says, that's why I question the MPG gains.

I'm pretty close.. Soon as I hear that ding ding ding LOW FUEL. I hit the gas station within 1-2 miles. I'm not taking my chances. I fill up about 11 to 11.5 gallons each time.

I can do 45km easy on low fuel, that I know. Also I getting more mileage out of a full tank by about 40km. Thats punching it all the time like I used to stock.
