yes and no ... when you purchase the stage 2 from gm there is a step by step which has 24 steps and like 38 illustrations

Yes it does come off. No new gaskets are needed. Its possible you might damage the intake gasket by tearing off the SC really fast but any mechanic with brains will be gentle.

Thats good. Make sure you keep all your parts and if they replace the gasket ask for the old one.

Stage 2

The dealership I took my car to, to have the stage 2 installed has no clue what they are doing. I dropped my car off wednesday morning to have my stage 2 that I waited almost 2 months for installed. Called them wednesday afternoon to see if I could pick the car up and they said they needed a gasket that did not come with the kit. They said they would get one and it would be done the next day. Called back this afternoon (Thursday) they still dont have the gasket and dont know when they are going to get one. I asked them what they needed a gasket for they said they had to take the supercharger off to change the pulley and had to have a new gasket to put it back on. Did some research on the forum here and it seems nobody else needed a gasket, so now I don't know what to think of them...

Does he work for a dealershit? I'm pretty sure it says GM stage 2 WILL NOT void your warentee IF YOU GET IT INSTALLED AT THE DEALER. I don't know if its the same with a non-gm mechanic.

The S/C shouldn't come off. No reason for it when installing just injectors, pulley, and a belt.

There is no way that the stock pulley will come off while the blower is still attached to the car. There isn't even close to enough room.

On a RL you're correct - but there's no room under the Cobalt hood to accomodate the puller without damaging something else

This stage 2 kit looks like a lot of problems. It sucks that the dealers don't have a clue!

We had to use a press machine to get that SOB pulley off. Try to fit that on without taking the blower off.

I just got word that my Stage 2 has finally arrived. So I call various dealers in the area for appointment dates and quotes for the install. One dealer told me that they couldn't do it and they would ship the install out to some aftermarket installers (sounds like no one at this dealer is boned up for this install). They also told me I would have to wait until 36,000 miles because the Stage 2 would void my warranty even though it's A GM part. Now I know my SS/SC has a 5yr/60,000 mile POWERTRAIN warranty... is going on here??? I may have to take it out of town just to get Stage 2 installed...

Yeah mine got bent in the process. My SC got scratched up too but for some odd reason it didnt bother me once the install was done.

Same here. Had the 12 tonne press maxed out when it popped. Scratched the blower a bit and the original pulley is NFG. A few scratches but no biggie. Runs smoother and torque is better down low.

I just got quoted the same time for labor, but $415. I thought I read somewhere on here that it should only be $100 and an hour of labor...
