Stage 2 Kinda Disappointing

Has any one else realized that most the power from the stage 1 came from the injectors and an engine flash only! (+31 hp./+ 5 tq)

The smaller pulley upgrade for stage 2, which you would think should make the most gains(w/ calibrations of course) only nets +5 hp and +13 tq, that seems weak!

I understand that you need recalibrations to run more boost but it seems that the smaller pulley combined with the injectors and calibrations should make more power!!!

Does any one agree?

The increase in torque is what makes the most dramatic difference.

i agree, torque is very important but most hand held programmers on the market (other vehicles of course) alone give you that much torque! And to think that we are throwing a smaller diameter pulley & injectors into the mix and thats the numbers we will push?.... i guess i expect more numbers with all things combined! I think the package will compliment other mods as well though.(cams, sportsman cnc head, headers etc...)

lol i noticed that to. horsepower wise. it seems better to just get bigger injectors and the calibration. i guess its not a 2.8 pulley. i went today and asked about the part numbers and there still not in the computer

The stage 2 pulley will be a 3" pulley.

A 2.8" pulley is called for by the 300+hp build book.

I was thinking of the same setup. But I wonder if the the stage 1 & 2 Calibrations are the same? If so thats what i am gonna do. I am also probably going to put some Comp Cams in around Christmas. I'll let you know so we can hook up and you can check it out. I talked to CompCams yesterday and they said the 113250 cam is designed to work with stock valve train and good up to 400hp and 7500 rpm.

We’ve been preaching that peak horsepower numbers don’t mean a thing for years, and while the Stage 2 package doesn’t deliver much additional peak horsepower over Stage 1, it provides what matters most – torque. We found the torque to be a vast increase over Stage 1, resulting in 10mph more straightaway speed and monster acceleration off corners. The Stage 2 setup is very similar to what is being run on the Grand Am Cup Cobalt. Like the winning race team we found the extra boost and torque from the smaller supercharger pulley to be much to our liking, especially while accelerating down Mid Ohio’s long backstretch.

shoot yeah man. let me know. see if u can get our cars to be experiment cars. i mean heck im right at Atlanta. anyone can can manufacture on my car around there? lol. anyways. but with the cams. its can hold 400 but your pistons cant. see i think better pistons is huge for these cars on the long run. how much are u paying for those cams and what are the gains?

well the article answers some questions as far as stage 1/ stage 2 pcm calibrations. This makes it easier to make the decision that i will probably go with a stage 1 and the 2.8 pulley. thanks marcS!

Stage 1 is getting the HP gain from increasing the redline RPM, closer to 7K. Torque times RPM divided by 5252= HP. Do the math and the HP increase is around 30-35Hp. The pulley swap in stage 2 will increase torque output, but will not change RPM range so HP does not increase much, but you will feel it! The stage kits are going to be the best bet, they have already been proven on the track.

Also with the stg2 I think you will notice the biggest difference because the power curve should be greatly improved due to boost coming on a lot faster.

My Rods and Pistons will need to be replaced eventually the way i drive lol. Mahdavi Motorsports does all my brothers SRT4 work and their pretty cool . I know the two brothers that own the joint. best of all their pricings fair so thats probably where i will go. CompCams sell direct to the public at $479 a set. I am going to do one of two things.....see if Mahdavi can get em cheaper or i have a motorsports corporation so i may be able to buy at jobber pricing. i have to look into it though. Lawrenceville is about 20-25 min. north of atl. on I85. Sugarloaf Pkwy is the main street i live off of.

aw man sugarloaf parkway. i know where thats at. mahdavi motorsports. his girl has 1 bad Supra. Yeah i see them every year at Steele Alabama Nopi Nats. my dad has a camaro and he lets Brad Brand with Atlanta Chasis Dyno do all his motor work. im going to let him to the work on mine. U know of him. he had his shop off of sugarloaf parkway but moved. he has 2600 HP. But he is a Chevy guy gone Ford. but he still knows his stuff. I would be interested in some cams. there is 2 other Cobalt SS's riding around here. So i got competition.

Don't get me wrong guyz, i am grateful of the power increase. I will buy at least the stage 1 with a smaller pulley than the stage 2. and i def. want to be able to feel it. Now the only trick is getting traction down in 1st!

Those guys have done some crazy sh*t up there at Mahdavi. Lots of custom stuff! But you gotta have some flow when you go custom. That awesome you know the guy personally at ACD. Isnt ACD in conyers now? I know they were off of Buford Hwy. They were rumored to be out of business.......

I think that looking at numbers quoted from a manufacturer is pointless especially without a dyno to see where the power is made at. Just a raise of the limiter will keep us in the powerband between the 1-2 shift as well as still in 3rd gear at the end of the quarter mile at 100+. That will make the difference that we're looking for and probably well worth the money IMO. I don't think GM is dropping the ball on this one

Traction in 1st and 2nd will most likely be a big issue after the pulley goes on.

yeah after reading that article, it seems almost dumb to do stage 2 if you want more horses...stage 1 and a smaller pulley definately seems to be the way to go...
