Stage 2 kit Questions

alright so im gunna start saving for a stage kit 2 now i have some questions..im currently on the stock exhaust only thing i have done is an injen cai...now i forget the stock pulley size but i don't think i wanna go any smaller than a 3.0 heard theres more problems on anything smaller than 2.9 but that could differ im guessing depends what u have done already?

injectors again not sure the stock # on em but would i wanna go 42's or 60? i run 93 shell gas nothing else so where to go there would be appreciated...for the PCM probably not going to do my own tuning cause i have no idea about that is the core charge mean its going to be tuned to whatever u order? really confused about all that happy crap...and the heat exchange is probably going to be a good idea to order as well...couple more noob questions what is the dual pass endplate and what does it do?

Im sure you guys will try to answer what u can id really appreciate it help me out on what i should do cause im completely brainless on stage kits but i know i do want one lol

Thanks. Forgot to add any differences on zzp vs ottp kits

Just IMO, if you get a stage kit, don't get the replacement ecu, there have been issues with certain ECUs from stage kits having locked tunes, despite what the makers of the stage kit says, so if you want to retune later, you need to throw the stock ecu back on. We've got several good LSJ tuners in our area, so I would suggest a custom tune. Also, might wanna get custom gauges as well, just to keep an eye on everything. You might just be better off getting a downpipe first, one with an extra 02 bung so you can run a wideband, which you'll need if you get custom tuned. So again, just saying either get the custom tune and do the supporting mods first, or get the canned tune and be prepared to swap back to stock ecu in the future.

however you wanna do it is really up to you, I'm just trying to help you do it the safest way possible.

Bika and Aces N' Eights can both tune LSJs, idk who else can, there might be more. Which reminds me I wanna send Bika a message, I'm ready to get tuned now. Also, if you're not ready for a clutch, might wanna wait on the stage kit. not sure exactly what the LSJ clutch is rated to but I don't think it's very high.

didn't even think about that lol the clutch is pretty new...well would it be a bad idea to run a slightly smaller pulley i just want a little more boost for now

I think you'll be ok on a 3.0, though I'm sure someone on here who has actually modded an LSJ can chime in. That's the one thing I'm worried about on my car, I know a tune will put me right on the edge of my clutch's strength. If you do end up needing a new one after making too much power, there's a GM performance one for the LSJ that's supposedly really good.

Stock is 3.35, I'm on a full ZZP Stage 3 setup. I stayed conservative with mine without any exhaust work and am on a 2.9 pulley. I have 60's for injectors, which is the better choice if you go 2.9 because there is room to grow, where the 42's will be near maxed out. Also, a good big front mounted Heat Exchanger will be a good idea, the only thing a dual pass does for you is circulates the fluid in the system 2 times, instead of 4 like the stock setup, which causes it to recover from pulls faster, NOT making the car run cooler. (atleast that's how it was explained to me on here)

Another option is a shorter belt, or oversized tensioner pulley, or even an adjustable one. The shorter GM S2 belt will be the easier option IMO.

I have a stock manifold on my car with a ZZP 2.5 catted DP and it helps flow, but without a header anything smaller than a 2.9 is pointless, you just don't flow enough exhaust. Bad mab has a group buy for 155 shipped for their header which seems to be the best LSJ header for the price.

Ok, onto the clutch. The stock GM clutch can hold close to 300 whp on our LSJ's if it has not been beaten on it's whole life, mine is starting to go and I'm at 88.5k miles. The best option here for cheap is the GMPP clutch, so many ppl run it and love it. plus have been holding 350whp or more for a while!

Since your in Ohio you could go E-85 with 80 lb injectors and possibly a walbro drop in pump. but at that point a WB 02 and or an interceptor would not be a bad idea.

Fen: What are you trying to get out of your car? If you want to have a safe build that will be able to grow I would definitely get Downpipe w/extra bung, Wideband, get a 2.9 with 60# injectors so you can run any size pulley, a Stage 3 heat exchanger, and a custom tune. I would also look into headers to make everything breath better, but if you got the money get the headers. I would eventually get dual pass as well. However, 100% get a custom tune.

I am running 60's, 2.9 (2.7 once I make a road trip), bad mab, 3" catless d.p, stage 3 h/e, dual pass, zzp 3" cai, and a custom tune by Chevycobaltss3 (who I highly recommend). I haven't had any problems and my clutch is holding up fine.

So if I were you I would get a d/p and headers, then get the stage 3 kit without the pcm. Stage 3 kit is way more bang for the buck. Then a custom tune and your set.

Somewhere along the lines of 260whp, just depends on how aggressive you want to get on the tune. The other thing you WILL want is rotated trans mounts, I would suggest Powell racing parts for these. you can contact them on here, John is a supporting vendor.
