Stage 2 program

Hey everyone i was wondering if anyone could give me an answer on this question?

Right now i have the stage 1 with 2.8 pulley, stage 2 pulley belt, K&N cold air, 3" down pipe with high flow cat, 3"high flow exhaust and i am having some problems with the idle of my car. I went into the dealer and they replaced the PCM and also updated it for the problem but i guess it didnt work. my car idles and almost stalls and on one occasion has actually stalled. I have tried MAF cleaner i changed the spark plugs out with the NGK 1 colder plugs and nothing seems to work.

I was wondering if i got the stage 2 reprogram if anyone thinks that would correct the idle problem and does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to get just the reprogram.

Thanks for the help

The stage 1 and stage 2 reflashes are the same.

Did you gap the plugs correctly when you got them? Its not all about the plugs, but the plug gap that you use. A CEL would help understand whats going wrong if you have one, otherwise, it could be a dirty MAF from the CAI or one of the many other sensors. How many miles are on your car and what year is it?

What he said. Is it only doing it when its cold? And you've got the heater running on like 3 or 4?

My RPM's will dip down to (as low as) 500rpm sometimes; when it's cold and I've got the heat or even the A/C cranking, and the stereo bouncing. I think it is just that the alternator strain, combined with such a small pulley, etc. Switch to a Stg 2 pulley and see if that changes anything for you. Otherwise, see if they can warranty your Injectors (just for the hell of it, it probably won't fix the problem, but hey... you'll have new injectors!).

My car is a 05 and has 40,000

It used to only do it with the AC on but now seems to do it all the time doesn't matter if it is hot or cold and when the RPM's drop the lights dim and everything gets ready to shut off. I beileve i have the plugs gapped to .43 which i think is right for my pulley size. I have the check engine light on which i think is what you are referring to as the CEL the last time i checked it, it was a lean code but bc my friend is moving and has the scan tool packed up i have to wait for him to unpack it to get the code it is throwing.

Do you think i should try a different gap on the plugs? i am really running out of ideas and i am not great with cars as far as knowledge, i know a decent amount but i am not mechanic so the help is useful.

oh and i did have a focus if you are asking bc of my name

well, i keep my NGK's gapped around .38 which is what the stock plugs are gapped at. Does it feel like its losing power when you get on it?

Take it back to the dealer and have them check the cel.

No actually it is running great! what are you running in your car as far as pulley size? I can try to gap the plugs lower and reset the PCM that seems like the easiest thing to do at this point.

My car does that **** too... lights dim and everything. When you push in the clutch, the rpms just DROP and bounce around 500 or so. Turn off the A/C... and turn off the Heater. Set the fans to 0, and see if it still does it. Cause it stops doing it for me when I have that **** off. Its because when you have the A/C running, the A/C condensor (which runs off of your Belt) kicks on and puts more drag on your engine (which is already struggling to turn that 2.8 - I have one too!). The Lights dim, because the engine slows, so the belt slows, which then slows the Alternator; which is what is powering your lights and ****.

PUT A STAGE 2 PULLEY ON... I CAN ALMOST GUARANTEE THAT IT'LL STOP DOING THAT! There is one for sale here:

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/parts-66/japeatrs-moving-sale-93574/

Just make him an offer. (That is for a 4 bolt GM hub)

EITHER WAY, its nothing to worry about... there is nothing TRULY wrong. You've just got too much strain on your belt/crank. Don't run that heater on such a high setting... and don't run the A/C at all (Roll down your damn windows!)!

that is WAY too big! stock should be .039 and modded you should be smaller than that. you should probably be somewhere around .037 or so.

I am going to re gap the plugs. This does not just happen when the A/C or Heat is one because i have the same problems when the A/C and Heat is off as well.
