stage 2 question

Hey guys. I am new to the cobalt ss/sc thing. I bought a ss/sc with a stage 2 i believe. I am not to familiar with the pulley thing. When i go WOT i see 14.5 lbs. What size pulley would that be? It has a K&N cold air and some muffler which i am going to change tomorrow to a borla XS. it runs real strong for what it is. i kept up to a 2001 trans am ws6 until about 120ish until he pulled. no traction in 1st at all and sometimes none in second

what i really want to know is can i change the current pulley to a smaller one with out having to get anything else besides a tune? can i just buy the pulley? i have seen them for like $60. is there something else i would need??? like something that hits maybe 17-18ish?
please help me out. let me know where to get it

and i tried a search but no luck

thanks

a. If you have stage II you will have a 7,000 RPM redline.

b. pulleys.. I wouldn't go any smaller than a 2.9 on the 42lb. ers and factory toon. Hell even the 2.9 maxes the IDC of the 42#ers at times during WOT. I'd upgrade to 60# injectors and get some cooling mods to be on the safe side.

I'm sure others will chime in with their .02 as well. Just give it a few seconds.

If your on GM stage 2, then its a 3" or 3.11" inch, can't remember exactly. Still big... lol

With my mods below, I'm running an instant 15 PSI.

IAT2s are cruising at 90 F., and no more than 125 at WOT after multiple runs.

(If you do the below, I recommend you get tuned by HPTUNERS, and not just the stage 2 flash, even though people run safely on just the flash alone.)

2.9 is a very efficient pulley for stage 2. Low temps, and good power. Though I do recommend 60 lb injectors, as I am seeing 113% injector duty cycles WOT. As well as purchasing a wideband...

If your interested, my 60s and AFR tune is this weekend. I'll keep you posted if you PM me..

Expecting to be around 260-280 whp, 258-280 wtrq. I won't know until the dyno day comes, so stay posted.

Here's a good site for a smaller pulley...www.smoothflowpulleys.com/Stage2.html

with my 2.90 from Nate above I see 16.25 lbs and my duty cycle is around 114% at 6800 rpm so it runs a little lean....

Well, not to thread jack, but, I bought an 06 with what I thought was a straight-up stage 2 install. But I'm making 17.5-18 pounds of boost at wot.

Is that what is expected?

They changed the pulley for sure and the list goes like this
2.8-16-17psi
2.7-18-19psi
2.6-20psi
2.5-21psi

your going in the wrong direction in regards to boost a higher number doesn't mean a higher gain in power ... well not a significant increase anyway but your mostly creating heat. Before dropping a new pulley I would say get your support mods first, h/e, dual pass end plate, maybe meth.

It's got the 77.9mm stamping on it, but I know Cobalt Addiction makes a small pulley thats made to look like the gm pulley to the untrained eye. Perhaps that's what I have.

Or your cat is taking a **** , higher boost numbers can also mean there is a restriction on the exhaust side.
