Stage 2 Reflash & Rev Limiter
Stage 2 Reflash & Rev Limiter
I did search and found some very old topics so I'm asking again instead of reviving a zombie thread..
Anyways, just had GM install stage 2, and then I took it for a spin and proceeded to bang against my rev limiter in 1st and also in 2nd... (at 6500). So it seems I did not get the proper reflash since it should be increased to 7000 rpm.
So is there a way I can prove to my GM dealer that it has not been properly done, without taking them for a ride and hitting the rev limiter again at 6500?

I had this exact problem! Chevy said it did have stage two on it because the scan tool couldn't upload the reflash - because the reflash was already on there. Then they said it was the tach not keeping up with the engine...which it does do in first and second gear. But i brought it in again and told them...drive it, and even in third gear it will limit at 6,500. they said they wouldn't drive it because when third gear limits your going 110mph. so Chevy did nothing for me. I had to get it changed at a tuner. I'm sure you do have the correct tune tho, the car would run like ass if it wasn't reflashed.
yah what sucks is i just had it installed, and over winter i obviously couldn't floor it and get traction so now i'm trying to compare how powerful it feels now to 4 months ago when summer was ending. but for sure it is still fast, its not running like crap. so maybe it is the tachometer problem but thats why i'm hoping there is a way to know for sure
I was worried about this when i first got my stage 2 installed also from reading a few posts here about dealers not being able to install the kit proberly. Also seeing how the dealer had only installed the kit once before kinda scared me also. But, i knew the tech that was going and did do the install on my car. A freind of the family. So i went ahead and did it. And im glad i did. The kit was installed easily with no problems at all. And he said reflashing the computer took all of 15 mins. He said he spent more time on the phone with the techline then almost anything else !! LOL ! He gave me back all my old parts as well as the bit for the new pulley bolts and put them in the box the stage 2 came in. He even wrote the case file # on the insctructions for me just in case its ever needed in the future. I was impressed with the dealer all and all. My car taps out at 7000 rpm on the money. Seems to idle alittle higer too. Before i idled at about 750 rpm, now it looks more like 850-900 rpm. I think 6500rpm redline is stock ?? Is it not ??? I would definitly get the dealer to try the reflash again.
Yah I'm for sure taking it in Tuesday morning. But i was hoping there was a way I could prove I didn't get it so I don't end up arguing with my dealership.
Because everyone on here including me knows its supposed to be 7000 but if i tell them that they will just say they don't think its supposed to go to 7000 and then the arguing begins
(and its not a slow or lagging tach either)

What year is your car? I've got an '07. This was the first '07 that my dealer did, and they had to wait a few days to get the new flash, because I guess it's just a lil different from '05 and '06...or at least thats what they said. In the end I ended up downloading the diagnostics online of what my computer really had on it. And it did have the stage 2 flash, but still was limiting at 6,500. I'm sure this is the same case for you too. I understand your frustration, you want the dealer to do it so you can have the warranty, and so that it's done right. But the dealer is probably not going to do much for you. I should go back with my dyno sheets and slap them in Chevys face...but...whatever...what do you expect from a dealer? You should tune that bad boy anyway...I got a 21hp and 15tq increase from tune alone...
mine is an 06 but i just got the flash done.. and yes according to the diagnostic i have stage 2 flash but my rev limiter is 6500 as well. i wonder if there is a chance they have changed the flash???
