"Stage 2" vs. sourced kit...
My dad is, to say the least, disappointed with his 15.04@94mph at the drag strip and now wishes to go stage 2. I have had various friends in the Lightning and Cobra scene tell me to get my own pulley and injectors and go to town, however, I have some questions.
Can the stock injectors go any higher on their injector duty cycle or is it necessary to purchase larger injectors? Can a local shop reflash and tune using the stock ECU or do I need to install a Haltech or SAFC?
From what I can see, the Stage II kit should cost me ~$650USD. outsourcing parts I can pick up a 2.8'' pulley for $90, a set of injectors for a little over $200, and a belt around $40-$75. On top of that, tuning at a local shop yields a rate of $150 an hour. That puts the total price somewhere between $550-$625. However, is it really worth the hassle to do all of the sourcing and tuning when I can install the Stage II myself?
I had a guy tell me this weekend that all he did was "change the pulley" on his LSJ and gain mad horsepower. However, I can't help but think that the smaller pulley and lack of injectors would cause the engine to run waaaaaaay lean and possible burn out a ring.
Thanks for any help.

just go to zzperformance.com or ottp-over the top performance. or if you want crateenginedepot and get the full stage 2 kit. crateenginedepot will have the gm stage 2 which is 42# injectors, 77.9mm pulley, stock is 79mm. zzp will have the option of much smaller pulleys and 60# injectors and can tune the pcm for you. I personally went with the GM Stage 2 from crateenginedepot and am very pleased with it, but some just want more power.
HP Tuners takes some time getting use to and you really need to do alot of reading. BYT has a really good tuning excel file. Iam Broke is another guy that has some really good articles on tuning.
I would pick OTTP, ZZP or GM stage kits and go from there.

I went the ZZP route and got a conservative setup with a 3.1inch pulley and 42# injectors and a ZZP canned tune and dynoed at 233whp. With a custom tune I should be at or around 240whp. The kit plus labor to install was at about $750 even. Both ZZP and OTTP are good starting options.
With GM2,ZZP 2.9 and a Injen Intake i put down 244/225 on the dyno.
Second dyno i was on i put down 233 as my base and after the BYT tune i put down 253/223.

Kind of what i did. I bought the car with a GM2 on it and added the GM3+ Trifecta Tune and had BYT tune my car on top of that.

I find it so odd that you made less power with a trifecta tuned GMS3 OS (before BYT tuned you) over the GMS2 tune. The GMS3 tune as it comes from GM is a good improvement over the GMS2 tune.
Either way you made some nice progress.

It was during a BYT/Dyno Meet. Everyone believed the dyno was a little off. I have not gotten a chance to go back to were i had my original one done yet but will have to get a hold of my buddy since its his dyno.
