Stage 3++ or Twin Charged
Hello everyone! First post here. Been doing some homework in regards to these engines and so on. Seems like heres a good place to start. I need some help and I know some of you out there have been to where I need to go so here goes....
Im working with a friend on building a nasty setup for his saturn redline. 2004. We just installed the ZZP stage 3 kit. However, the guy tells me he wants crazy power. So what I am wondering is this..
For those of you running CAI, 3" exhaust, single pass IC, 2.7" SC pulley, tuned, ect/ect.... What type of power and 1/4 time can be expected with a mean supercharged setup? Is it worth putting the money into the SC setups on these or should I go another route...?
If its not enough then Im going to steer towards the ZZP twincharged setup. Theres power to be had in that setup, and he has the money to do it right..
Now Im sure people will disagree with things and there will be lefts and rights through this whole thing.. Ive been through it all before doing my 3800SC engine build. But I need to hear from people with experience..
I dont want to go any further wasting money on the SC build if the power and 1/4 times just arent where we need. Money isnt really a problem. Keep in mind this doesnt need to be the best build ever done, but we need some good solid yet reliable power from this baby..
Im open to new ideas, discussion, whatever. And I want to say thanks to anyone and everyone for their thoughts and help towards our project.

What kind of quarter mile times are you looking for?
By the sound of it you are probably looking to twincharge the ion. Crazy power/no lag.
ZZP's a hair away from 10's in the quarter with their best twincharge setup... Nothing you can reach by staying SC'd.

My friend is talking about his friends with their hondas, running 13.x. Id like to see at least a 12.x from this saturn. And I will admit I DO NOT KNOW about these engines and what it takes to get where we need to be. We dont have like specific 1/4 times, but at least in street form run a nice impressive time.
I was about to at the same thing. Tell him to load up on traction mods and cooling mods along with the set up you listed above. Get those sticky tires and get plenty of seat time in. He can do 12s with this set up. Anything better than that and he will need another/different power adder.
Zzp twincharge is pretty much top of the line. Properly build the engine along with the twincharge kit and the sky is the limit.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
So I will see if 12 is the type of power he wants. And probably go with these parts to obtain it...
CAI
ZZP Single pass IC Kit - that whole intake, just send ours back in.
2.7" pulley
Possibly port inlet/outlet on SC for larger TB adaption/block silencer ports
Midlength header, full 3" exhaust
Anything Im Missing?
Now I havent spent too much time looking yet, but is there also just a straight turbo kit? Lets say just like the cartuning ones for the 3800SC engines, where you gut the SC, plate the end and add the turbo?
A little off topic, but will the solid engine mounts cut down on wheel hop on these cars? I should of searched first I know but Im typing so much Id just rather keep going.. hahaha..

Cooling mods - front mount heat exchanger, dual pass end plate, option b/flow-thru tank, meth injection
Traction mods - rotated transmission mounts, solid upper engine mount/torque dampener, drag bags
I recommend sticking with a 2.8" pulley and above. Anything less really only adds unwanted heat and isn't very efficient. My belief is if you have to machine the SC snout to use it, then lose it. That pretty much means stay above a 2.75" pulley.

So is the dual pass end plate required for the single pass kit from zzp?
Found here... http://www.zzperformance.com/cobalt_...1163&catid=178
and a 2.7 requires a machined snout? This is good learning. And I appreciate the help. Good help is hard to find.
I'm sure we can rotate the trans mounts ourselvs.

Check out zzperformance.com they have a turbo only kit as well for the lsj. All of their stuff is top notch (including their flanges now
) Im sure you know a good bit about them tho coming from the 3800 series.
ya if all you want is 12's check out the official dyno thread and official 1/4 mile thread... mix and match those people you like the numbers of and what they have done.... all the info you want is in those two threads... but with what you have already... a driver mod, meth, cooling mods, sticky tires, some traction mods and youll have 12's all day

Alright. Thanks for the info. Ive seen the other company blower, but if your going to drop that kinda money into something, personally I would do the turbo. I love the SCs but the turbos can usually generate more power, and better gas milage for just daily driving. LOL.. Now dont think were afraid to use fuel.. Were running 94 all day long.
Spend a little time in the 1/4 thread and figure out what you need...
