Stage II & GM Flash Help Please
Stage II & GM Flash Help Please
I am ordering the GM Stage II kit for myself as a early Christmas Present. Now, I plan on installing it in my Fathers Garage and with his help. After I install everything, I will need the GM Re-Flash. My dealer is about a mile down the road from my father's garage. Can I just drive down there and request for the Stage II flash? Just pay them for the flash and get the hell outta there? What would be the best option for this issue?

Driving a mile without the flash wont hurt anything, just stay out of the boost, and under 2500 RPMs.
Good luck!
Have you gotten a puller yet or do you have a press?

if you are driving it about 1 mile you dont have anything to worry about. just stay off the gas and dont get carried away. i dont know about staying under 2,500 rpm... but dont push it (no more than 3,500 i would say)
just make sure your dealer is fine with keeping your warranty and doing the reflash. u will save on labor for sure.
just a suggestion, ask ur dealer how much they would charge for a full stage 2 install. it might be worth it if they are not incompetent.

i was thinking doing that too doing the install myself and telling the dealer to do my reflash, b/c they wanna charge me 500 for the install on stage 2 and imma get it soon, i can jsut get all teh things i need by going to my cousins gas station. But i jsut gotta make sure i can still get warried for my parts if i need it.
The kit is easy to install yourself with the proper tools. I did it it myself and had the dealer do the flash. He charged me 1 hr. (minimum charge). The check engine light came before I could get it to the dealer. The code was for exhaust too rich, which is what you would expect with larger injectors and ni tuning.
I did a search for this and after much reading this is the closest I have come to finding my answer. My wife got stage 2 as a x-mas gift for me and I will be installing it myself as the only dealer here said they will NOT put aftermarket parts in my car. (Yes I showed them the GM box and tried to explain it is a GM set up) The dealer only sells Tahoe's, Trailblazers, and a couple cadillac models and when the tech looked at the supercharger he basically said no freakin way, he didn't want to be responsible for screwin something up and since he's the only chevy specific tech there they won't touch it.
So my question then is this, How far and or long can I drive it once stage 2 is installed without the reflash. This is the only Chevy dealer around here or hell in Germany that I have been able to locate and it is approximatley 45 miles away. I can take the smaller side road all the way there and not have to go much faster than 30-45mph, thereby staying off the autobahn. Is this safe, will it cause any damage to the motor, supercharger, computer, etc, etc, etc?

Go talk to your service manager at your dealer. If you explain what you want to do there may be a chance they will want to charge you something crazy for a flash. I ended up getting the stage two parts, had the dealer install it and do the flash and it cost me just a shade under $800 out the door.

Doing it right isn't a problem, I have the time, proper tools and the know-how. And although I don't want to screw up my warranty, I'm not really concerned about it. I figure if anything happens once stage 2 is installed, it will likely be my own doing and not a factory defect. My issue is that I am stationed in Germany and Chevy dealerships are few and far between. The only dealer close to me is 45 miles away and the tech that works on chevys refuses to touch the supercharger. He said he would do everything but the pulley swap, so I figure if he won't do the hardest part of it why pay him to do any of it. The service manager said that because of the restrictions here on mods that could possibly change emissions on a car germans just don't spend as much time and effort doing this stuff and when they do they take it to specialty shops who specialize in doing mods. I could and would be willing to take it to one of these shops as there is one right down the street from me, but doesn't it have to be a GM dealer that does the reflash? If not what would the shop need in order to do it?
I was talking with my neighbor and he suggested that I go to the OPEL dealer only a couple of miles from my house and see if they can do the reflash for me. I figure the worse thing that can happen is they tell me: nein, verrückter Amerikaner.

Well the Opel dealer said they can do the reflash. They won't do the install for me and the specialty shop down the street wants 400 Euro's(over 500 US) to do it so I'm gonna do the install myself and just go pay for an hour of labor for the reflash.
