Wow they actually clear up the 300 HP limit on the rods and pistons. It's really just the pistons that need an upgrade. And they up the compression ratio, not normally what you would do on a forced induction car when upping the power/boost.

Excellent find

So all you need to do is buy aftermarket piston heads so far? Is that right...

Yeah, I wonder how difficult this would be as a do-it-yourself project

That's a lot of work for 300hp though.

depends on what kind of 300 hp they are talking about, if it's a good solid 300whp with a good torque gain, it'd be worth it if you got a free weekend

Considering you need to remove and tear the engine apart, I would say a lot of work, plus the special tools. Like the valve spring tool.

Something I might consider when my car is paid off

Yea, I was wondering about that too. I thought the SS 2.0 was already forged? It is just the rods or something else?

2.0L ECOTEC Supercharged Engine
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This all–aluminum dual overhead cam, four–cylinder engine is built off the strengths of the original, naturally aspirated 2.2L ECOTEC engine.

The Eaton M62 supercharger spins at a low rpm, which improves durability and creates less noise while allowing for plenty of top–end power. Power delivery of the supercharged engine is instantaneous. Maximum boost of the supercharger is 12 psi.

Also included on this supercharged engine:

A direct–mount oil cooler
Oil jets for piston cooling
Heavy–duty pistons
Strong connecting rods
Forged–steel crankshaft
Large oil sump
Sodium–filled exhaust valves for improved durability
A high–strength aluminum cylinder head

The SRT guys can get 300 without tearing into the engine, I guess I'll have to see what chevy has planned.

That's what I thought, but my family has a GM dealership....I'm wondering if they have the tools. If they don't I know the guys that rent shop space from them do. It'd just be a matter of me finding enough friends who were willing to help me out.

A new high-flow head/cams would really help, but damn...that would cost too alot for being a staged upgrade.

I was also under the impression that our cars internals, ie crank, con rods and pistons were good up to 400 hp or so, so long as they had the right injectors and tuning to match. They are good forged internals after all. The question is...can the M62 supply 400 hp without running out of breath or coming unglued from the rpms?

But they aren't forged, only the steel crankshaft is forged (see post 13)

Actually. The SRT ecu is uncrackable because the guys at Mercedes locked the **** out of them. Lots of cars have been blowing up when going over 400rwhp because they can't tune it

The rods are. The stock rods are used again in the 300+ hp build book for the LSJ.
