It Started with a squeal...

Last night I decided to drive the car for the first time in about a month or so. There was a squeal in the engine bay which stopped after the car warmed up. Then my abs light kicked so I pulled over and turned the car off and let it sit for a minute turned it back on and light was still there so I was like wtf decided to drive it home and pick up the wifes car. I was no more than 3 miles from home and airbag light started to come on, again I was like wtf!!! a little further down the road my lights turned off with the exception of my dash lights. No low voltage alarm or anything like that. NExt the security light popped on. I was almost home the about half a mile before I got home the DIC said power steering it was like a systematic shut down and I hope that that the power steering works when I get this fixed because I had the dealer do the recall work about 3 months ago. I was able to get it into my garage then it died. Im assuming this systematic shutdown is due to the battery or alternator not working properly so Im going to remove both of them tonight and get them tested tomorrow during the day sometime hopefully its not too pricey. What are your thoughts?

It's probably the alternator since you heard a squeal. If it was the battery, the belt wouldn't be having an issue. The squealing is the pulley locking up on the alternator. You can get a used alternator for about 60 bucks, hell I actually have a spare 2.0 lsj alternator if you need one

Also the abs light etc could be from the cold weather and the car not being driven in awhile. Sometimes when our brakes aren't used in awhile and it's freezing out the abs light will come on, it's not a big deal and is probably related to the battery but either way you have nothing to worry about. The power steering was simply from the battery being to low to power everything.

What happens when your alternator goes out is the battery starts to drain. You will lose your lights, your power steering, everything that is electric will start to go. If you had an interceptor/voltage gauge you would see a HUGE fluctuation from 11ish to 14ish which isn't good.

I went through the same issue awhile back, parts fail, its not a big deal and it IS the alternator.

@ suckmybalts I will keep that in mind
@mrbelvedere I called napa and they have lifetime remans for 169 plus I get a level 4 discoiut thru them or something like that I appreciate all the information I can get thanks guys.

Just and FYI out alternator is the same one in the saturions ions with the 2.2 and 2.4 from the model numbers I checked on. I could be wrong but I will double check.

Its the pulley thats 139.00

AND 169 for the alternator itself.

No leaks from the endplate itself and what would you like for the alternator?

Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

search a junkyard and save some cash. idk how tough it will be to come across an LSJ alternator tho.

Will do I havent got a chance to pull it as of yet I just got the supercharger off and low and behold the coolant from the laminovas is leaking into the intake manifold looks to be from the right hand side. Im assuming that that is the side that one of the seals is bad so I will pull the intake manifold out and clean it and more than likely just replace all 8 seals unfortunately the cheapest I have found the is about 15 bucks a piece.
