does it matter if i have the metal shield over the stock header or not?

cause i took it off and theres a wierd bbq type smell when i drive it lol

I would say you could leave it off. Most people leave them off when they install an aftermarket header.

Check above the header to see if anything is burning.

I put mine back on when I installed my but took it off a few months ago when looking at something and havent melted anything yet.

 

Maybe just the fiber on the fire wall that's all lol. It will be ok unless ur car is catching on fire. Why would u want the factory heat shield off anyway.
