Just got my 06 cobalt ss/sc a few days ago and just was giving it a little for the first time and when i got up to around 120 or so i heard a strange whining/screaching sound and it sounded like it was under the passenger seat. once i slowed down it went away but i have no idea what it was. My friend said it could have been maybe a clogged cat and the previous driver prolly never got the car up there. does that sound right or is there something else to worry about?

 

The cat, isn't going to be under the passenger seat. What mods are done to it, and what boost is it showing?

 

No mods done to it at all. i know the guy who bought it and he took good care of it. he only had it 10,000 miles since he bought it certified used. as for it being under the passenger seat that could have been misleading. when your on one side of the car its hard to say where it was for sure

 

First off what does the noise sound like? Are you seeing an increase in boost lately? Does anything feel different with the car at all?

 

I know how that goes. How much boost?

 

Like i said i just got the thing a couple of days ago and thats the only time i got it up to that speed. i didnt happen to glance at it during that time but any other time it sticks around 12lbs like its suppose to. as for the noise it was screaching almost grinding noise. im pretty sure it wasnt wind or anything like that but it just hit for that second or two, i dropped down to 100 and it rode there just fine. if its a part i can replace it but i just dont know what it is.

 

Do it again, with a video camera rolling? Just don't get a speeding ticket.
