Stupid Question

Ive been on this site for a decent amount of time now and i cant believe i dont know this yet.
Is the gmpp honed and extruded exhaust manifold just an aftermarket header? I was pretty sure it was but my friend assures me that exhaust manifolds and headers are completley different things.

Thanks

manifolds and headers are pretty much the same thing, header usually just referes to aftermarket.

the gm honed manifold is a waste of money, it's basically just a stock one that's made to be a little bigger. still not as good as any other aftermarket pieces.

yup +1 for aftermarket. The only thing gmpp stuff is good for is warranty.

headers and exhaust manifolds are 2 completly different things. they both do the job of getting the exhaust into the downpipe, but thats were the simularity ends. headers are always tubular, not cast iron. a header is also specificly designed for power in different parts of the powerband, this is done through primary (the tubes from each cylender) tube length and diameter, collector (were the 4 tubes go to 1) length diameter and design.

as far as the gm extrude honed manifold, they take a new oem peice and basicly run beads through it at high pressure and they smooth out the inside of the manifold. a proper header is far better than this peice.

not really..in a general sense yes..techincally..

a manifold collects the exhaust, a header directs it. in simple terms

indeed, look into clear image, they built their header/downpipe system from the ground up, one of the best systems out there.
