tank for intercooling system(interest)

ok, this is a feeler, not a for sale thread, but just to see if there is a interest in the idea, i am turbo'n my car as some may know. i am running a water to air intercooler, i was planning on using a remote filler cap, with a filler neck and cap like that of what the LSj uses, than i thought to myself, why not have a aluminum tank made, well i spoke with vulcan turbo, which some of you know make turbo manifold, and coolant resevoirs for our cars already, well i spoke to them and they are willing to make me one, and are interested in making others for the rest of the cobalt community, now this would be just a a resevoir tank that is guranteed to fit in the cobalt engine bay, and use the mounts that we already have, i plan to position it in the same location everyone is mounting their option b's at. Here's some quick Ms designs i made for vulcan, i will be getting dimensions from my car, which wont make a diffrence as the lsj and the l61 both have the same amount of room in that area

^^^that pic shows where the tank would be located @

like i said before this is not a for sale, rather a gauging interest in the idea, i know a lot of you would rather get rid of the stock filler neck and replace it with a show quality tank, these tanks, like the regualr resevoir tanks can be powdercoated free of charge by vulcan before they are shipped out, or they can be left uncoated for those who want to polish them; for those of you unfamiliar with their engien resevoir tanks here's a few shots of it

http://www.ottperformance.com/Cobalt...duct_info.html

this should work for anyone wanting water to air intercooling in their car, l61, le5, and lsj, like i said this is a gauging interest, vulcan is pretty fast at whipping up stuff, they just moved into their new shop, so they are ready to go, as soem may know, vulcan is not a vendor on this forum, but purchases of their items can be made thru

Over the the top Performance - a well recognized vendor on this site

**Vulcan turbo is not a vendor but a manufacturer**
**all vulcan products are carried by OTTP, so vulcan makes it, OTTP can sell it**
**exact dimensions are not known now, images shown above are not up to scale, more details will be posted once this gets moving**

that would be nice to have a bolt in tank. I would have been all over this but just picked up a stock cobra resevoir.

yeah direct bolt on, i know OTTP was working on one, but i havent seen anything from them yet, so i contacted vulcan on making one, should take them long once i get them the dimensions for it, they made the engine coolant tank in 1 day, and it was a perfect fit

Hmm, Vulcan can make coolant tanks?

Get a hold of me. I have a design to push on them, I have a feeling it'd go over even better.

What about a fitting for a bleeder line? Isn't that the whole point of the "Option B" tank?

Or maybe I'm looking at it wrong. It looks like it's set up to flow through like the Hatrickstu design.

This would be just like Stu's design but a higher quality and better looking tank.

hatricksu's was made using a autozone plastic tank, def not show quality, this one is ment to spice up the engine bay and get rid of the crappy intercooleling filling system the car with aka the tiny filler neck infront of you intake manifold, also you can use it as a tank for whatever you want in that location, he can add more fitting of diffrent sizes on there, but general one will have 1 3/4" nipple, and another fitting on the neck to bleed off excess pressure

if anyone knows those dimensions, please post them, aswell as how much room u can do directly down after that braket, and how much room u can go forward before hitting the filler neck for the washer resevoir, i woudl like to leave a inch of clearance between the tank and the filler neck

why not design a tank with an inlet and an outlet...?
that way it doesnt just T into the system like the opt B tank does, but instead is run inline with the system like the hatrickstu mod

you folks keep re-inventing the wheel. The option B tank is that way for a reason. If you dont want to take GM's word for it, then make sure you have the credentials to back up your theory, otherwise you can join the ranks of "my car sounds like a subbie".

ok so one nipple is fine than right? b/c thats what i originally planned, as thats all u need, the point is for a nicer tank, that is easier to fill the system with, but like i said if you want another fitting on it, he can weld another bung on it for another fitting, but i think for the most part the normal model will have one 3/4 nipple to be tee'd into the system

vulcan makes a tank for the engines coolant that works on all model cobalts, this one is for the water/air intercooling system for a supercharger/turbocharger(in my case), i would only need one, i guess you guys want 2, thats fine like i have said 3 times now, 2 is fine, 1 is fine, he can put 8 of them in there if you want, thats no big deal, expect a update later on next week, ill be working with them on designing as big a tank as we can fit in that area

yes this one will be a mirror image of the one they make for the engines coolant, only this one will be bigger as there is more room, and the fittings will be moved around, basic stuff
